Starting manga 12, Haikyuu's designer changed. With this change the spine on volume 12 looked different. It goes back to normal for volume 13, changes on 14, and then goes back to the original again. Also, for 12 and 14, it says "ShonenJump Manga" on the cover. The back looks slightly different too. Anybody know /why/?

Well, that picture is at a really bad angle. Perspective of anything effects how it looks, in this particular situation, its possible that the tilt of his head is giving the affect that his bangs are shorter- considering his head is lifted slightly. idk tho
