"A Battle We Can't Afford to Lose" (Japanese: () けられない (たたか) Make Rarenai Tatakai) is the three hundred and twenty-eighth chapter of the Haikyū!! series, written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. It was published in the 52nd issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump’s 2018 series.

OverviewEdit

The match between Fukurōdani Academy and Mujinazaka High gets underway. Fukurōdani is determined to emerge victorious but Mujinazaka quickly proves themselves to be troublesome opponents.

PlotEdit

Anticipation is high as two powerhouse schools, Fukurōdani and Mujinazaka, are about to face off in the Spring Interhigh quarterfinals. Just as the teams line up for the start of the match, Akaashi grows serious after recalling his friends and fellow setters giving it their all fighting for victory. Bokuto also appears deep in thought but suddenly draws the attention of all onlookers, loudly declaring that he will be the "top one" ace.

The match begins with a serve from Mujinazaka's setter, Usuri . Expecting their opponents to have their focus on Bokuto, Akaashi sends the first toss to Onaga . However, the Mujinazaka blockers use a commit block to shut down the incoming spike--Mujinazaka scores the first point of the match. After Usuri's second serve goes out of bounds, it's Onaga's turn to serve. Kiryū makes a clean receive, and Usuri wastes no time tossing to their ace, who blasts the ball over a three-man block.

AppearancesEdit

Chapter notesEdit

Character revelationsEdit

  • Kiryū was chosen as the MVP during his Middle School years.

Trivia Edit

  • Mujinazaka High is a representative of Ōita Prefecture (Eiwa High, the team Fukurodani played in the first round, was also said to be from Ōita. This may be a mistake on the author's part, as Ōita typically only has one representative in the Spring Interhigh). This is Mujinazaka's 9th consecutive year attending the Spring Interhigh and the 30th time overall.
  • Fukurōdani Academy is attending Nationals for the 7th year in a row and their 28th time overall.
