"A Monster and His Club" (Japanese: “
Overview[]
The match begins, and Kageyama and Hinata shock Nekoma with their signature quick strike. Nekoma is soon pushed into calling for a timeout, but Kenma finds a way to stop Kageyama and Hinata.
Plot[]
The spectators gather in the bleachers, waiting for the match to start. Ukai is approached by Naoi, an old rival who's currently one of Nekoma's coaches, with the other being Coach Nekomata. After exchanging some pleasantries, the Nekoma coaches leave and Coach Nekomata says that even if the older Ukai isn't there, Nekoma won't show any mercy.
Daichi reminds the Karasuno members of their newfound teamwork and how shaky it is, telling them that they might encounter some trouble in the match. However, if that happens, they will surpass it.
The match soon begins. Kenma tells Hinata that he thinks Nekoma is strong because of the entire team, not just because of himself. Hinata wonders if Nekoma has someone with a strong serve like Oikawa or an ace like Asahi.
Kageyama and Hinata perform their signature quick strike right off the bat, shocking everyone in the gym. As the game progresses, Kenma stares at Kageyama and Hinata, and Ukai says that something doesn't feel right.
Nekoma is pushed into calling for a timeout. Nekomata tells his team that the way they're playing isn't going to work, stating that Kageyama is a monster. However, despite his accuracy and speed, his tosses can only work with a spiker who jumps with absolute trust in them. There is only one spiker like that on the team—Hinata. Kenma says all they have to do is stop Hinata by narrowing his range of movements. Nekomata states that Kageyama is the "Oni" and Hinata is the "Kanabō." All they have to do is take away the Oni's "Kanabō."
