"Affirmation" (Japanese:
Overview
Asahi is frustrated by his multiple failures to break through Kamomedai's wall. However, he is reminded of his teammates' unwavering support and decides to shed his self-doubts.
Plot
Karasuno supporters grimace as Hirugami cleanly shuts down Asahi's spike once more. Having had similar experiences in the past, Hirugami knows fully well that a strong desire to succeed will only create more anxiety as the mistakes pile up. Karasuno calls for a time-out to improve the atmosphere. Asahi's face grows solemn as his frustration becomes noticeable to his teammates and bystanders. Daichi interjects and breaks Asahi out of his musing, telling their ace that no one has a 100% successful spike rate. Sugawara joins in and bluntly tells Asahi to stop measuring himself up to such unrealistic standards that uneven Bokuto and Ushijima can't achieve. Hearing his teammates' words, Asahi admits that he used to be terrified whenever he messed up in a game and thanks his teammates for preventing him from falling deeper into a slump.
As the match resumes, Bessho targets Asahi with another serve. The two teams start a long rally with Asahi entrusted to score. However, he is still unable to breakthrough Kamomedai's formidable blocks. As the ball falls on Karasuno's side, Nishinoya makes a crucial save to keep the ball in play, and Karasuno takes advantage of this opportunity to even the score at 17 - 17. Afterwards, Nishinoya silently reassures Asahi that he has Asahi's back. As Sugawara is subbed into the game, Asahi finally realizes the weight of his teammates' support and chooses not to be swallowed by his own insecurity.
