Overview[]
To celebrate the holiday of moon viewing, the Nekoma team celebrate by traveling to the moon where they encounter strange beings.
Plot[]
Akane and Alisa excitedly announce to the Nekoma team that September 15th is the day of celebrating the moon viewing. Kuroo tells Yamamoto that this celebration is the very reason that the Nekoma team has traveled to the moon itself. Yamamoto finds the entire situation hard to believe considering the travel itself, the fact they're only wearing their school uniforms, and that they can breathe fresh air.
With Yamamoto the only one questioning how this is possible, Kuroo explains that traveling such a distance is a simple thing to do in their current time and traveling to the moon on their way home from school is something high school students will be able to do on average once it's been perfected. Hoping to satisfy the ace, Kuroo explains that being on the moon was possible thanks to Yasuemon's "Anywhere Door". With the ace appearing to accept this as how they got there and can breathe air, Kai notices that Kenma isn't engrossed in his games like usual. The setter explains that it's because wi-fi doesn't reach the moon.
Akane and Alisa gather the boys together for the moon viewing picnic. As they do, Inuoka suggests they play volleyball to celebrate getting to the moon. The others agree but things quickly become concerning when Inuoka attempts a jump serve and the lighter gravity causes him to float away. With Yamamoto the only one appearing concerned for the first-year, Lev declares he will attempt the next serve since the lighter gravity and no air resistance should make his serve even greater.
Yaku attempts to receive the ball but comments how strange it is to do on the moon. Kenma notices that Kuroo appears distracted. This is quickly revealed to be due to the sudden appearance of humans with rabbit-like appearances. The group of moon bunnies welcome the Nekoma students in their cute speech and add that it has been a while since they last saw any humans. Their leader, a bunny that looks like Bokuto, tries to welcome them but he is unsuccessful as he had been unable to learn the Earth language. The Yukie bunny offers the teens a moon burger that had been taught to them by the American who came before them.
While Kuroo tries to politely turn the meal down, some of the bunnies ask about the game the others are playing. Lev and Yaku explain the game is volleyball. The Nekoma team go through a few plays that captivate the bunnies. Bunny Sarukui comments how the only game they know is golf taught to them by Captain Aran, but the one disadvantage is that the golf balls tend to not return once they're hit.
The bunnies try to get the teens to join but Akane and Kuroo notice how late it's getting. Upon hearing the humans state they will need to head home soon, the bunnies right away try to plead for them to stay since it's been fifty years since they last saw a human and they've been incredibly lonely; something that could be fatal to them.
The bunnies start to don a frightening aura as they continue asking the humans to stay. With most of the team frightened, Kuroo is able to calm things down by promising that humans will be visiting and they themselves will return one day. The bunnies agree and allow the teens to leave. With Lev getting Inuoka back, the teens rush off as Kuroo reveals the promise he made was a lie and that travel to the moon should not happen just yet.
On a bus, Tsukishima is muttering in his sleep about the dream he's having of the Nekoma team meeting rabbits on the moon and causing Yamaguchi to worry.
