"Bigfoot Hyakuzawa Sighted" (Japanese: ({{{2}}}) ) is the eighty-eighth chapter of the Haikyū-bu!! series, written and illustrated by Kyōhei Miyajima and was first released on January 10, 2022 on Shōnen Jump+.

Overview[]

Rumors of the legendary Bigfoot are catching the attention of hunters and volleyball players alike. But was it really Bigfoot that was spotted?

Plot[]

On another seemingly-boring day at Shiratorizawa Academy, Semi expresses his boredom and Tendō adds that he would like for something interesting to arise. As if on-cue, Goshiki rushes into the cafeteria with the announcement that the legendary Bigfoot has been sighted in the nearby mountains.

Meanwhile, at Kakugawa High, Komaki informs Hyakuzawa that he had been spotted during their ski trip the previous day and is being mistaken for Bigfoot. While a little surprised at first, Hyakuzawa starts to understand how he could be mistaken for the creature thanks to his larger physique. Even then, he still is unsure of how he was mistaken as Bigfoot, but Komaki has a theory.

During the ski trip, several of the boys were preparing to ski or snowboard when Komaki notices that Hyakuzawa is also going to attempt snowboarding. The first-year explains that there were no skis available for him to use because of his height. Asamushi understands the situation and points out how Hyakuzawa's gear is not fully covering him because of his long limbs. Komaki offers a solution and presents a white fur coat perfectly suited for Hyakuzawa that he had spent the previous night making.

With the coat thought to be the reason of why Hyakuzawa appeared to have looked like the famed monster, Hyakuzawa wonders if this was the only reason. Komaki does not believe so and explains another possible theory. When the group had taken a break, Inagaki had mentioned how his feet were hurting from skiing. Komaki drew a foot in the snow in order to explain how certain activities would add pressure to different pressure points and make their feet hurt. While the team accepted his explanation of foot pain, they tease the captain of his drawing skills as the drawing he had done is stated to resemble the famous "ics" brand logo.

Komaki believes that his drawing is another reason the rumor began. Hyakuzawa now thinks that Komaki is the one at fault for the rumors starting since he was the one who provided the coat and drew the foot in the snow. Komaki tries to defend himself and states that these two things were not the only way the rumor could have started.

He reminds Hyakuzawa of how other members had started to say how they were growing cold the longer it continued to snow. In order to prevent Hyakuzawa from giving his coat to someone else, Komaki stated that shouting very loudly could help them warm their bodies. Believing that no one was around to hear them, the team gave it a try and began shouting very loudly as they made their way down the mountain. With the yelling possibly being mistaken for roars and Hyakuzawa wearing the fur coat, it was easy to believe that the teens were being chased by Bigfoot to anyone who may have spotted them.

Because of all that happened, Komaki announces that hunters have been arriving from all over the country and a five hundred-million-yen reward is being offered if someone can catch the supposed Bigfoot. Komaki believes they need to straighten things out in order to prevent things from getting any more out of hand. Hyakuzawa seems hesitant on this and suggests they just simply ignore what's going on. He quickly changes his mind when Komaki points out how locals are terrified and self-defense forces have been dispatched.

In the mountains, the Shiratorizawa team are out searching for Bigfoot along with numerous other hunters. They are spotted by the Kakugawa team as they hide in the trees while debating if it's a good idea for Hyakuzawa to go out in the open with so many people looking for Bigfoot. They continue to keep hidden as they overhear Tendō question Ushijima about something that appears to be on his mind.

To the surprise of the Kakugawa team, Ushijima questions if it's possible that the Bigfoot everyone is looking for might have just been someone wearing a white, fluffy coat similar to the one that Semi had decided to wear. Although happy that Ushijima figured it out, the Kakugawa players soon become dismayed when Ushijima's teammates question how it's possible for someone in a coat to be mistaken for a legendary monster. Ushijima surprises them again by suggesting that someone with a large build, such as Hyakuzawa, could fit this description.

Tendō then asks about the footprint found in the snow. As if by mind reading, Ushijima suggests that the footprint could have been a drawing someone had made during a possible description of foot pain. The famed ace continues his theory by stating that the roars that were heard could have been people talking loudly. He is quickly silenced by Tendō who pleads for the ace not to ruin their fun and the possibility that they could actually find Bigfoot. Hearing Ushijima begin to apologize and retract all of his correct assumptions, the Kakugawa players decide to hurry out of hiding to inform him that all of his theories were correct and that the Bigfoot everyone is looking for is Hyakuzawa.

Later, Ushijima is seemingly bragging to his teammates about how he was right about Bigfoot not being real.
