"Bokuto the Magician" (Japanese:
Overview[]
Jealous that others are gaining attention from performing magic tricks, Bokuto attempts to perform his own magic. Unfortunately, he does not completely understand how tricks work.
Plot[]
Washio presents a card and correctly guesses that the card selected had been the three of spades. While he receives praise from his teammates at his magic trick, the question is brought up of why he suddenly started learning magic. Washio confesses that young children tend to be afraid of him and he had decided to use magic tricks as a way to prove he isn't scary as they think.
Predictably, Bokuto attempts to mimic the card trick and has Akaashi select a card. As the setter does, Bokuto begins randomly guessing which card it could be and is soon surprised to hear that there is actually a method behind the magic tricks.
Komi and Konoha try to get Bokuto to understand that the method's behind the tricks are what make them look impressive and try to show him how moving cards around in a certain manner can make it look trickier than it appears. Konoha displays an impressive handling of the cards and seems to further convince others of his nickname 'Jack of All Trades'. Seeing how Yukie and Suzumeda are impressed over the tricks, Bokuto starts becoming envious. Akaashi pleads with Konoha to show Bokuto a simple trick that he can try. Konoha shows Bokuto the simple trick of making it look like he detached his thumb from his hand, but Bokuto naturally thinks that it's genuine. Not wanting to be outdone by Konoha, Bokuto runs off with the promise of finding a trick he can do that will be better than anyone else's.
Later, Bokuto appears in the gym with a large box that he says will help him divide a person's body. As he is dragged into helping with the trick, Akaashi tries to keep in mind that he should do what he can to keep Bokuto from being embarrassed since the trick will require a high level of skill from both of them.
Bokuto begins his trick and starts pushing the center box to the side, but everyone is surprised to hear Akaashi cry out in pain. Akaashi asks Bokuto what the method is behind the trick but is surprised to hear the ace isn't aware of the method and is more than likely just forcing the trick to work.
Bokuto continues the trick by presenting steel metal sheets that he begins inserting between the boxes and further cries of pain are heard from Akaashi that the others believe is simply part of the act. However, Bokuto forgets the next step and calls for Suzumeda and Yukie to cover for him until he sorts the trick out. The girls quickly distract the others by presenting a table full of food ready for Yukie. Suzumeda waves a tablecloth in front of the table and all of the food has vanished. The boys are further impressed by the fact that they know this is real and not just another trick. Unfortunately, they were so distracted by the girls that they didn't see Bokuto finishing his trick and are shocked to see the state Akaashi is in.
Six years later, Atsumu is surprised to hear Bokuto wanting to perform a magic trick during the next fan meet. Hearing that Bokuto had mastered a certain trick during high school, Atsumu starts to become jealous at hearing the ace will gain further attention. However, he is surprised to hear Bokuto ask for his help in performing the trick.
During the next meet, Akaashi is surprised to see Bokuto attempt a repeat of the body divider box but has now been upgraded to have the assistant lying down and a large saw above them. Seeing how many people, including Atsumu, seem nervous, Akaashi remembers when he had done the trick with Bokuto. But knowing how the trick requires two people, Akaashi is certain that Bokuto has also enlisted Osamu to be in the lower box since it would make it look more like Atsumu was split in half.
Unfortunately, Akaashi forgot that Osamu is actually standing right behind him and has nothing to do with the trick. As Bokuto starts the saw, Akaashi tries to shout to Atsumu to escape before it's too late. Atsumu does not hear the warning and soon is heard crying out in pain that some of his teammates are convinced is part of the act.
Bokuto later announces to Hinata and a bandaged Atsumu how much the audience loved his trick.
