"Chapter 17" is the seventeenth chapter of the Let's! Haikyū!? series, written and illustrated by Retsu.
Overview[]
Nekoma makes their debut and Karasuno prepares to face them in a practice match.
Plot[]
Karasuno rests after practice but Hinata has positioned himself to where he is able to rub Tanaka's head and scratch Asahi's beard.
In Terms Of Body Part: Kuroo hears how Kenma is being looked down upon and explains to his opponents that Kenma is the back bone, heart, and brain of the team. Yamamoto questions Kuroo what part of the body he would represent and is dismayed to hear Kuroo answer that he would be the ankle bone.
Reliable Mom-Power: Nishinoya urges Tsukishima and Yamaguchi to eat finish their dinner even if they have to force themselves to eat. Outside the training house, Mamkiko Yamamura sees how the two first-years are struggling to eat. The next day, the two were given specially made meals by Mamkiko; Tsukishima's meal designed to look like dinosaurs and Yamaguchi's meal looks like Tsukishima. Nishinoya is amazed to see the two eating the food enthusiastically and with no difficulty.
Which?: Yamamoto makes a bet with Inuoka and Shibayama on whether or not Karasuno has a girl manager. He is so certain they do not that he is willing to bet his Häagen-Dazs ice cream as the prize to the winner. When Inuoka and Shibayama state that they think it would be good for Karasuno to have a girl manager, Yamamoto asks Kenma what he thinks. Kenma answers that he'd rather have fish cake than ice cream. At this point, Yamamoto points out how Kenma suddenly has cat ears.
Hang In There! Benchwarmer Second-Years: Ennoshita, Kinoshita, and Narita explain how they had previously left the club because it was not fun anymore and they were not able to keep up with the brutal practices. They theorize that Daichi allowed them to return solely because the club was short on members. However, in a flashback, Daichi is shown to have not even realized they had left the club in the first place.
Uniform: As the players are being handed out their uniforms, Nishinoya is pointed out to be wearing a uniform from the girls' volleyball team. Nishinoya reminds them that this is his hobby and that he has one of the regular school uniforms, a tennis club uniform, and even one from the cheerleading team.
Overstrained: Hinata begins showing signs of being nervous about the upcoming match. Kageyama warns him not to overstrain himself so that he will not throw up like last time. Although Hinata attempts to claim that he is alright, he soon begins throwing up so much that his vomit fills the entire building.
Face Off! Karasuno vs Nekoma: The following day, Nekoma and Karasuno finally come face to face. However, everyone on Karasuno is completely covered in vomit and leave Nekoma with a frightened impression of them.
