Overview[]
Freed from distractions, Fukurōdani and Mujinazaka face off evenly in the third set. Both sides are focused and pushing their abilities to the limit in order to achieve victory.
Plot[]
Bokuto recalls his middle school memory of his coach advising him to do what it takes to have the most fun rather than to simply do what is easy. During a run, his teammates abandon him to take a shortcut back to school leaving Bokuto to finish the run alone. Back to the present, Bokuto drives his serve into the net, allowing Mujinazaka to tie Fukurōdani 12-12. He absentmindedly proclaims that he's tired, gathering dumbfounded looks from Akaashi and the referee. Meanwhile, Mami and Kiryū share a laugh as the latter declares it's time to go on the attack.
Both teams continue to play in peak conditions. When Bokuto encounters a three-man block, he deliberately pulls off a rebound to secure another chance to attack. Akaashi recalls the time when Bokuto took interest of the technique after seeing Akaashi's failed attempt in a practice match. Surprising him, Bokuto gives Akaashi the same advice from his middle school coach as Akaashi learns Bokuto is much more than his carefree exterior implies. Akaashi tosses the rebounded ball to Bokuto once more. This time, Bokuto cleverly uses a feint to break through Mujinazaka's defense and help his team take the lead. Next, Bokuto performs a powerful serve that sends Mujinazaka scrambling to receive it. As the ball flies towards Fukurōdani's side following two messy bumps, Kiryū leaps for the ball while Kenma and Kuroo observe in disbelief. Kiryū quashes his anxieties and spikes the ball across the net.
