"Daichi Can't Catch A Break" (Japanese:
Overview[]
Daichi is called to inspect a collision between a vehicle and a cow. Upon arriving at the scene, Daichi finds that things are not as he originally believed.
Plot[]
Together at the Osuwari restaurant, Sugawara happily celebrates the New Year with Asahi and Daichi. Hearing Daichi ordering tea to drink, Sugawara asks why he isn't drinking with the rest of them. Daichi explains that he might be called onto duty later so he can't risk drinking any alcohol.
Sugawara offers a solution by saying that Daichi should at least eat with them and orders some beef skewers to celebrate the year of the ox. Daichi tries to correct his friend by saying that 2018 is the year of the dog but confuses himself when stating that 2021 is the year of the ox. Asahi playfully suggests that something might happen relating to the year of the ox when Daichi receives a call from his prescient asking if he is fit to handle an accident that just happened involving a car and a cow.
Daichi hurries to the scene of the accident and is surprised to find the driver involved is Shimada. Daichi asks for Shimada's statement of how the accident happened and hears how Shimada was simply driving his delivery truck when Ushijima crashed into him, hence the 'cow' that was reported to be involved in the accident and Ushijima admits that he was the one who crashed into Shimada. Daichi asks if they could possibly recreate the accident, but Shimada points out how damaged his delivery truck is.
Shimada pretends to be driving is truck when he states to have suddenly spotted a buffalo in the road. Despite Daichi's shock at hearing of a buffalo wandering around, Shimada continues to explain that he had attempted to stop his truck in order to avoid the buffalo when Ushijima ran into him. In order to accurately recreate the scene, Ushijima crashes into Shimada. Daichi asks Ushijima why he felt the need to crash into Shimada's truck. Ushijima's answer is that he had seen the truck and buffalo were about to collide and wanted to do something to prevent the collision. Shimada starts to become worried after hearing that the driver is usually labeled at fault for when a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle. Daichi wants to first interview the witnesses before he gives any answer.
Saeko was out celebrating the year of the ox and was in the area but admits that she wasn't paying attention when the accident happened because she was fixated on the buffalo. Tsukishima was also present but admits that he had been drinking and doesn't remember anything that happened. A third witness, Shirabu, appears and states that Ushijima is not at fault and states that Shimada is simply trying to escape responsibility, putting the store owner further on-edge. Ushijima reaffirms that he is the one responsible for the crash and offers to pay for the damage to Shimada's truck, but Shimada suggests another offer.
Later, Sugawara and Asahi are watching an ad for the Shimada mart that Ushijima is starring in and question Daichi of what led to this outcome.
