Overview[]
At last, the game between Karasuno and Shiratorizawa ends with Karasuno as the victors. Karasuno will now go to nationals. Karasuno is celebrating and Shiratorizawa is eliminated. Ushijima goes to talk with Hinata and Kageyama declaring that they will taste defeat next time. Team Karasuno is then seen eating. Meanwhile in Tokyo, the representative playoffs begin.
Plot[]
With the final point gained, Karasuno wins the set and the match. Cheers erupts for the winning team while the Shiratorizawa audience is left stunned in the wake of their loss. The Karasuno team themselves, though surprised by their victory, quickly embrace on another with tearful joy. While his team watches Karasuno celebrate their win, Tendō bids farewell to his paradise.
As the teams line-up and give their thanks to one another and the coaches, Oikawa voices his displeasure that Ushijima does not seem upset by his defeat. At the same time, Washijō watches Hinata walk away with his team and questions if the middle blocker is taller than himself. While guessing that Hinata may still grow taller, Washijō believes that Hinata's desire to continue getting strong will grow as well.
Oikawa and Iwaizumi quickly figure out that Karasuno's success most likely came from Tsukishima relaying a plan to the team when he returned from having his injury treated. Oikawa figures that Kageyama saw the possibility of Ushijima trying a cross shot and was the reason he had switched places with Hinata after his serve since he would be their best receiver in the back row. Iwaizumi compliments Kageyama's receive and says this is no surprise coming from Oikawa's pupil. Oikawa denies Kageyama being his pupil but does admit that he is impressed that Kageyama was able to adjust the tempo of his set when Hinata joined the synchronized attack. Oikawa says that Hinata is the type of spiker that just makes a setter want to toss to him and Kageyama must be showing off by having him as his partner. With that, Oikawa begins to usher Iwaizumi out of the stadium while claiming he does not want to witness the award ceremony least he become sick. Takeda and Ukai give great joy and praise onto the team, complimenting their receives, physical and mental strength, and hailing Tsukishima as the MVP (most valuable player) for his blocks.
Reon notices Shirabu's demeanor and questions if he is alright. Shirabu confessed that he is upset and had believed that there was no way that they would lose. Reon states that both sides must have believed they would not lose before several members begin to shed tears. The team gathers before Washijō and Tendō recalls the coaches earlier threat of making them run back to the school. Fortunately, Washijō does not carry out the threat but instead informs them they will have a 100-serve punishment when they return to the school.
During their cool down stretches, Tendō points out how Ushijima became more fired-up during the end of the match when he would normally stand back and let someone else handle things. Ushijima confesses that he wanted to send a message to Hinata that he is stronger than him and asks if such a thing was childish to do. Although surprised at Ushijima's confession, Tendō does not think the ace was being childish before revealing that he will now be retiring from volleyball.
Ushijima soon finds Hinata and Kageyama in the hallway and promises that he will defeat them in the future. Hinata and Kageyama accept his challenge with the promise that they will beat him again. In the bathroom, Yamaguchi finds Tsukishima who is visibly angry at himself for having claimed he would stop a handful of Ushijima's spikes but was only able to stop one. Yamaguchi quickly scolds Tsukishima for putting himself down and that he should be happy that the team won and made it to nationals. At the award ceremony, the Karasuno team is presented with medals and awards as the team is determined to make their way to the Spring Tournament.
Later at the same restaurant that the team went to after their defeat against Aoba Johsai, Ukai watches in amusement as several of the players are on the brink of or have fallen asleep in the middle of eating. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, the qualifier tournament is about to begin.
