Overview[]
Kageyama utilizes both his astounding skills and ingenuity to help Karasuno steal back the lead; however, Asahi seems to fall deeper into a slump as he fails to break through Kamomedai's block.
Plot[]
Through a gallant effort by the first-years, Karasuno ties with Kamomedai at a score of 13-13. After a few more exchange of points, Kageyama steps up to serve. By this time, Mika has noticed that Gao is always placed at the back corner during Karasuno's serves. Daishō elaborates that Gao is not participating in serve receives since his inexperience will make him an easy target. Immediately after Daishō's explanation, Kageyama surprises everybody by using a soft serve aiming at Gao. Gao calls out for the receive, thinking he can handle it; however, he quickly has second doubts after remembering that he should be focused on getting ready for a back row set. The momentary hesitation costs Kamomedai a point as Karasuno retakes the lead.
Afterwards, Kageyama is greatly lauded for both his cleverness and his well-placed serve. Atsumu, who has stayed to watch the match with his twin, is especially annoyed to find Kageyama completely different from the "goody-two-shoes" he met at the training camp. For his second serve, Kageyama returns back to his usual power serve. With Hoshiumi taking the first touch, Nozawa spikes the ball over. Karasuno manages a one-touch on the spike and sends a toss to Asahi. Seeing a gap in the block, Asahi tries to break through only to find his spike cleanly blocked. It turns out that Suwa baited Asahi to spike through the gap before closing the opening tightly. Having been an ace himself, Udai is empathizing with Asahi as he prays that Asahi won't break down due all the heavy responsibility.
