"Futakuchi Teaches Some Kids" (Japanese:
Overview[]
Date Tech is asked to help teach a class of young children how to play volleyball. While most of the players are able to teach the kids proper techniques, Futakuchi teaches them something else that may not be entirely useful.
Plot[]
As Nametsu is reading anonymously-written complaint cards of how Futakuchi is too strict and harsh as captain, Futakuchi hears what the others think of him and calls them cowards for not telling him directly. When Nametsu questions what he would do if they did tell him of their complaints directly to his face, he answers that he would continue to bully them for the rest of their lives. He goes on to say that Date Tech needs a brave and eloquent captain like himself and not one like Aone who is more graceful and delicate.
As Nametsu comments on Futakuchi's smart tone never stopping, Oiwake approaches and asks for the young captain. He reveals that a nearby children's club is asking for help in teaching the children how to play volleyball and Oiwake has decided to task Futakuchi with handling the request.
Futakuchi and the Date Tech team are soon presented to the young children as the volleyball players who will help them learn the volleyball basics. The class turns out to be the Lil' Tykes volleyball class that Takeru Oikawa attends. Having heard from his uncle how Aoba Johsai was able to beat Date Tech, the rest of the kids begin to wonder if Date Tech is a strong team.
Still, several kids ask an overly-eager Koganegawa to help them learn blocking while other kids are more apprehensive in approaching Aone even though Nametsu tries to convince them that the middle blocker is actually very nice. Oiwake seems pleased that things are starting out fairly well until he and Nametsu notice Futakuchi is being his usual self around the kids. When one of the boys asks Futakuchi if he can teach them how to block, Futakuchi begins to scold the boy about not showing him proper respect but Nametsu stops his rant short as the kids run away.
As Nametsu tries to remind Futakuchi that they are there to teach young children, Futakuchi doesn't seem to notice his bad behavior. Nametsu points out that Aone is out of his comfort zone but is still doing his best to teach the kids as best he can and is receiving more admiration than Futakuchi at the moment. Futakuchi becomes determined to prove himself as the captain, but the rest of the team are concerned on whether or not he can act like one.
Futakuchi himself quickly becomes stuck at trying to figure out what he can teach the kids. One of the teachers suggests that he just teach them what he's best at until Futakuchi states that his best trait is aggravating the opposing team. Deciding that this is something he can teach the kids, he decides to gather them together to give them a lesson on riling up their enemies. He tells them that this is a skill that can help lower their opponent's morale but that this is a skill they will need to work on since they are still so young, and their insults may be limited to things like 'moron' and 'stupid'.
As he gives them examples of how to best insult an opponent, he also warns them that there will be players or teams who will use those insults to strengthen themselves, using Karasuno as an example and telling the kids to learn about their opponents beforehand. He then asks if the kids have any questions, but no one is speaking since they're too confused by what they were just told. Futakuchi then decides that it's time for them to learn how to execute this new method and adds that it's sometimes best to use provocation in a polite tone. He then tries to get the kids to repeat several phrases, but the kids are clearly hesitant to do so.
Despite being annoyed by what he is teaching the kids, Nametsu tries her best to keep from scolding Futakuchi since he is finally able to connect with the students. However, Futakuchi urges one of the boys to approach Nametsu and comment on how she is still single because of her harsh tone and behavior. Angered but keeping a calm appearance, Nametsu answers that she does not have time to be looking for a boyfriend because of how busy she is with the volleyball club, namely because of Futakuchi whom she soon has on the floor in a bloody mess, the sight of her actions finally convincing the kids that Date Tech is indeed a team to be feared.
The next day, Oiwake approaches Aone and Futakuchi. He informs the two that his daughter claims that Date Tech is now feared among the young ones and asks them if they know any reason why. Futakuchi quickly denies knowing of any reason why they would be afraid.
