Plot[]

Spring High Preliminary Arc[]

Karasuno vs Shiratorizawa[]

He and Hiromi first appear when they arrive at the Sendai City Gymnasium to watch Shiratorizawa play against Karasuno to determine who will represent Miyagi at nationals. He is asked by Hiromi who he thinks the better team is, and he answers that he thinks Shiratorizawa is the stronger team since they have Ushijima.

Tokyo Nationals Arc[]

Karasuno vs Inarizaki[]

On the second day of the tournament, Okuda and Takanashi head to the match between Karasuno and Inarizaki. As they head inside, they read the program that states the next match for the boys' team will be between Karasuno and Inarizaki, and they seem to be more excited about Karasuno as he specifically remembers the quick attack. Takanashi feels certain that Inarizaki will beat Karasuno considering their success and accomplishments over the last year and adds that she thinks Atsumu and Osamu are hot, the statement instantly upsetting Okuda.

When the first time-out takes place, Okuda comments that the match already feels like it's in Inarizaki's favor. Later, when Inarizaki put the score at 18-17, he notices that Tsukishima is moving to the back row and that Hinata is moving to the front. He comments that Hinata will most likely face his own quick attack again.

As the score comes to a tie at 20-20, Okuda remarks how it appears like Karasuno may win but becomes irritated when Takanashi states that he is favoring Karasuno because he is jealous of how cool the Miya brothers are, although he quickly denies this. When he next sees Aran's serving routine, he comments on how cool it is and debates copying it.

When Atsumu prepares for his next serve, Okuda becomes incredibly jealous when Takanashi starts praising the twins and calling them by their first names. As Tanaka begins to suffer the effects of not getting his line shot to work, he suggests that Karasuno should switch him out to cool down but switches to defend Tanaka when Takanashi remarks that the second-year's failed line shot may have done too much damage. When Tanaka is able to make his cross-shot work and win the set, he and Takanashi share in the excitement of the moment.

During the second set, Okuda picks up that Atsumu has been aiming his serves at Nishinoya on purpose. When Takanashi wonders if this is a smart move, Okuda explains that Nishinoya is considered an elite libero as he helps set the mood and silencing him could potentially give all of Karasuno great problems.

When Riseki is jeered at by the Inarizaki cheer team, he is surprised to see this happen and is told by Takanashi that the Inarizaki cheer team will be just as tough on their own players if they fail a play. He finds this treatment to be rather harsh, considering the players are still in high school.

With Inarizaki taking the second set and the game moving into the third set, Okuda, like Suguru, notices that Karasuno had changed their rotation and questions why they would do this instead of keeping the rotation that won them the first set. With the score at 14-13 and Inarizaki in the lead, Okuda excitedly spots Hinata rotating back into the match.

After Karasuno wins the match, the two are leaving when Takanashi expresses how she may get back into playing volleyball.
