Kenma receives a text message from Hinata and announces to the Nekoma team that Karasuno has made it to the finals. The Nekoma players cheer in excitement at their rivals making it this far while Kuroo playfully comments how they will now have to face Ushijima. With only two weeks left until their own qualifier tournament, Yamamoto loudly proclaims that they can't be left behind.
On the morning of October 27th, the Karasuno team arrives at the Sendai City Gymnasium and are welcomed by Yui Michimiya, Mao Aihara, and Chizuru Sasaki. Michimiya is so caught up in her excitement of the boys making it to the finals that she repeats and stumbles over her words. As Sugawara pushes Asahi away from the group, Michimiya presents Daichi with a charm for certain victory. Daichi gratefully accepts the charm before hurrying after the team. Michimiya then collapsed onto Aihara who is surprised that her friend was brave enough to give Daichi the charm.
Inside the gym, Hinata is surprised to see his friends Yukitaka Izumi and Kōji Sekimukai. At Tanaka's questioning gaze, Hinata explains that the two were friends of his who played on his team during the middle school volleyball tournament. Izumi reveals that he plays on the basketball team and Kōji plays on the soccer team, causing Tanaka to realize this is where Hinata possibly learned his excellent footwork from.
Kōji suddenly becomes fearful when he notices Kageyama walk by. Hinata explains that Kageyama is now his teammate and his behavior during the tournament was due to personal issues. As Hinata hurries to catch up with the team with his friends wishing him good luck in the match, Kōji and Izumi reveal that, despite that they've kept in touch, Hinata never really talked about his current team.
As Daichi begins leading the team to where they will storage their luggage, he suddenly stops and Sugawara bumps into him. They spot Shizuyasu Yokoyama standing several feet away while commenting that he hopes Karasuno didn't make it to the finals on a fluke. Ukai recognizes Yokoyama as someone who often attending the Karasuno games even though he was possibly not related to anyone on the team. Ukai goes on to describe Yokoyama as someone who will cheer for a play if he thinks it's good and will criticize a play he thinks is bad. The third-years become determined not to let Yokoyama call them fallen champions anymore.
In the bleachers, Takinoue and Shimada lead a group of alumni into the stands as the cheering section with the determination of not letting the Shiratorizawa cheering section beat them. Their attempt is quickly out-done when the Shiratorizawa cheering section is revealed to have many students and fans as well as cheerleaders and band students. Shimada tries to say that the cheering section should channel some of the confidence of the Karasuno players but quickly sees that many of the boys are suddenly overwhelmed with nerves.
Saeko suddenly appears while dragging a masked man with her, claiming that she possibly found a Shiratorizawa spy who attempt to flee when she spotted him. The man reveals himself to be Tsukishima's older brother, Akiteru, and that he had to come to the game in disguise as Tsukishima requested he not come to the game. Despite his best effort, Tsukishima spots his older brother in the stands.
At a sudden cheer, the Shiratorizawa team make their appearance.
During a flashback of Karasuno's meeting the previous night, Ukai goes over Shiratorizawa's playing style known as "addition." Ukai explains how Shiratorizawa will come at them with more power and strength then they have ever faced before. In the gym, Ushijima hits a ball with such force that Kōji catches the ball in the second floor bleachers. The Karasuno players remember Ukai's final warning of how each player on Shiratorizawa's team is a force to be reckoned with and not to be taken lightly.
Karasuno soon gets their time for warm-ups. As they practice their spikes, two female Shiratorizawa students spot Hinata and immediately begin to feel sympathy for him for being short and possibly being a substitute.
Before the match begins, at Tanaka's encouragement, Hinata and Kageyama display their new straight down spike; surprising and silencing numerous people in the process.
