"Guess Monster" (Japanese:
Overview[]
Karasuno encounters another troublesome obstacle when the "Guess Monster," Tendō, keeps shutting down their attacks, seemingly by pure guesswork. However, Kageyama is determined not to let this stop Karasuno for long, leading to Tendō saying that he is a sore loser.
Plot[]
Tendō, known as the Guess Monster, blocks Hinata's spike and ties the game at 3-3. Karasuno receives Reon's serve and entrusts the last hit to Kageyama. The Shiratorizawa crowd shouts for the team to stop Karasuno, but Tendō knows that blocking isn't about stopping the spike as much as spiking it back at them. He tells Goshiki to guard the line shot and successfully shuts down Kageyama's spike.
Reon serves again, and Daichi receives it. Kageyama glances at Asahi before he sets. However, Tendō isn't taking the bait and moves to block Hinata instead. Having snatched consecutive blocking points, Tendō declares he is at 120% today.
Saeko wonders how Tendō can react that fast. Shimada replies that, in addition to reaction speed, Tendō quickly read the situation on the court before blocking Hinata. He clarifies that such a feat is difficult since everything is happening so fast on the court, but Tendō is capable of managing it.
Karasuno takes a timeout. Goshiki reveals he expected a back-row set just now, but Tendō corrects him saying that Kageyama's glance at Asahi was a fake bait. Shirabu adds that Tendō takes account of others' quirks and habits to make accurate blocks. On Karasuno's side, Kageyama is upset at having his sets read and blocked. Coach Ukai explains that Tendō is using guess blocking and instructs the team not to look for patterns in his movements.
Reon serves again once the game resumes. After Daichi bumps the ball, Kageyama sets the ball with perfect form while not giving away any indication of which spiker he will use. The ball goes to Hinata, who spikes it directly over Tendō's head. Afterward, Tendō remarks that Kageyama is a sore loser.
