"Heavy Hell" (Japanese:
Overview[]
On a hot day, Koganegawa tries to figure out how to get Tsukishima and Kyōtani to call it a day and go home early. Unfortunately, things do not work out as well as he hoped.
Plot[]
On a sweltering day at practice, Koganegawa silently narrates a letter to Hinata and wonders how he is doing in Brazil. He confesses that he is going through a tough time at the moment with how hot it is and that the current heatwave may break a record. Koganegawa's attention is soon halted when Tsukishima calls for him and tells him how he needs to work on aligning his blocking. Kyōtani steps in and adds that Koganegawa needs to work on the type of tosses he sends to him.
Tsukishima and Kyōtani begin to bicker about which one Koganegawa should improve on and Kyōtani nearly steers the conversation toward violence even though Tsukishima does not seem worried about his threat. Koganegawa believes that the high heat is causing his teammates to be grumpier than usual since it's taking a toll on them both physically and mentally.
Thinking the same as the setter, Kyōtani suggests that Tsukishima should head home if he cannot handle the hot weather. Tsukishima replies that the hot temperature does not bother him in the slightest but that Kyōtani himself must not be doing well and should head home instead.
Koganegawa sees that his teammates are trying to get the other to cave first but that their stubborn nature won't allow it to happen so easily. Knowing that he can't speak like Futakuchi or stop the fighting, Koganegawa prays to the higher forces to come help him with the situation. As if to answer his prayer, two angels in the forms of Nishinoya and Asahi descend from the heavens. Nishinoya introduces himself as Zephyrus, God of the wind, and Asahi is the sun god, Helios.
The two angels ask what they can do for Koganegawa and the setter explains that he simply wishes to go home and escape from the heat but can't leave his teammates as they are. With the two angels seeing how Kyōtani and Tsukishima are trying not to let the heat bother them, they wonder what they can do. Zephyrus decides to use his powers to settle things.
Kyōtani calls for Koganegawa not to leave and to send him more sets. Koganegawa does so when Tsukishima notices the air in the gym seems different. Just as he pointed this out, the three men are suddenly slammed into the wall by a large and forceful wind. Zephyrus is pleased with his plan as he believes that this will result in the three not wanting to leave their practice early. Koganegawa tries to inform the wind god that his wind is too much for them to handle but Kyōtani and Tsukishima don't seem to mind as they appear to enjoy the cool wind.
Eventually, the wind dies down which upsets Tsukishima and Kyōtani. Despite this, the two decide to keep practicing while they are still cool. Koganegawa asks how they can continue practicing and Kyōtani suggests that the setter and Tsukishima can head home if they do not think they can finish practice. Tsukishima states that he never mentioned heading home and tells Kyōtani he should go home since he appears to be hallucinating.
Koganegawa tries to keep the two from fighting since it's still too hot but the two do not listen. With the cool air gone and the heat returning, Tsukishima's sport glasses begin to melt. Koganegawa begins to weaken from the heat but is stunned to see the two return to practicing. Kyōtani confesses that he cannot stop since he plans to one day face Oikawa and Hinata in a match and wants to be in his best shape to beat them. Tsukishima replies that he is used to the heat thanks to the summer training camps from high school and asks Yamaguchi to confirm even though Koganegawa points out that Yamaguchi is not present.
When Helios admits that there isn't much that he can do to help the situation, they hear a new voice and notice the goddess of music, Benzaiten, appear behind them. The goddess scolds the two angels for not doing their jobs properly and assures them that she will handle everything. She begins playing the music Firefly Light and Koganegawa thinks this will do the trick since the music could cause any Japanese person to abandon their sense of hostility.
Unfortunately, it has the opposite effect on Tsukishima and Kyōtani. Tsukishima explains that he greatly dislikes the song since people often compared his name to that of a firefly. Kyōtani feels the same and Koganegawa notices the flames of anger growing around the two.
Realizing that even the powers of the gods are not helping, Koganegawa admits defeat and decides to leave. He is soon shocked to see that the gym doors are stuck together, and they are now trapped inside the gym. He tries to relay the information to Tsukishima and Kyōtani as they continue to practice when the gym doors are suddenly kicked in by Iwaizumi.
The former Seijoh ace announces that he has come to visit Kyōtani but right away notices how Kyōtani and Tsukishima are pushing themselves in such hot weather. Putting both men into a headlock, Iwaizumi warns that they should not practice in such weather since they risk a heat stroke and tells them to head home. Koganegawa and the three deities are both shocked and amazed that Iwaizumi was able to do what they could not.
With everything settled, Koganegawa thanks Iwaizumi but only seems to confuse the athletic trainer with his joyful expression.
