"Interview with Kiryū and Bokuto" (Japanese:
Overview[]
Kiryū and Bokuto are brought into an interview. Throughout the interview, Kiryū begins to see Bokuto in a different light.
Plot[]
For a special coverage of Monthly Volleyball magazine, Fumi Enaga has decided to interview Japan's top three aces. Kiryū has agreed to the interview but quickly admits that he is somewhat nervous. As he tries to calm his nerves, Kiryū asks where the other top aces are since he is the only one at the interview. Fumi explains that Sakusa declined the interview because of his dislike of crowds, and Ushijima was not allowed to come because Washijō was fearful he would get lost.
Because of this, Fumi made a quick change of plans and managed to get Bokuto to attend the interview as he was 'conveniently' in the area, now making the interview about asking two of the top five aces. As Bokuto is being explained that the interview is just an audio recording, Kiryū begins to feel somewhat intimidated by Bokuto since he is a strong and talented player whose only problem is his inner instability that keeps him from being one of the top three. However, Kiryū begins to question Bokuto's intelligence when the Fukurōdani ace asks to make an entrance like a bird and has to be reminded there are no cameras present.
When things finally settle, Fumi asks the two what they think of each other. Kiryū right away thinks of answering that he thinks Bokuto isn't that bright but decides against it since he doesn't truly know him that well and instead answers that he is aware that Bokuto can play as good as any of the top three when he's in peak condition. When Bokuto is asked what he thinks of Kiryū, he answers 'Mountain Bandit'. When Kiryū thinks Bokuto is badmouthing him, Bokuto tries to explain by giving his impression of the top three. He explains that Ushijima is like a warrior type that would surely use a sword, Sakusa would be a knight capable of using spears and ice powers, and Kiryū is a muscular Earth and power type. As Kiryū continues to think that Bokuto is insulting him, he asks Bokuto what he classifies himself as only to hear Bokuto call himself the hero type.
Seeing that things are getting heated between the two, Fumi decides to ask them what comes to mind when they are spiking and asks Bokuto to answer first. Kiryū listens carefully and hears Bokuto answer that he thinks he looks cool when he spikes. When Fumi rephrases her question, Bokuto answers that he tries to have fun when he spikes. When asked what he thinks of, Kiryū answers that he tries to return any ball that is sent to him. Bokuto tries to agree with him about this but continues to escalate things until he mentions how his team will not give him the ball when he gets into one of his moods. Kiryū tries to get Bokuto to see that he does not suffer the same problem that he does until Fumi finally asks the two for a photo to end the interview.
Seeing how Bokuto always acts like himself and isn't nervous like he is, Kiryū wonders if he could learn from Bokuto's mental fortitude but decides not to learn too much when he sees Bokuto attempt to climb a tree. Fumi tries to get the two to stand next to each other with their arms crossed but Bokuto calls it the most normal of poses and that numerous magazines have used photos like that for their covers. He tries to get Kiryū to agree to a pose where Kiryū is holding onto Bokuto while he is standing on his knees, but Kiryū quickly is against the idea.
When he tries to get Bokuto to understand that they should sometimes take the safer option, Bokuto claims that doing this means that it wouldn't be any fun. Stunned at Bokuto's words, Kiryū listens as Bokuto claims that the two of them should make their own happiness and leave a great legacy behind. Surprisingly, Kiryū agrees and decides to go with Bokuto's idea of doing something new for the photo.
Some time later, Akaashi and several other of the Fukurōdani players are looking at the released magazine and see a photo of Bokuto and Kiryū dressed in festival attire. Bokuto explains that it was a fun idea, and that Kiryū thought the same when they did it although his teammates think otherwise.
At Mujinazaka High, Keisuke Unnan and Michiru Usuri are surprised that Kiryū would take a photo like this as Kiryū continually begs them not to look at the picture anymore.
