Plot[]
Spring High Preliminary Arc[]
Sometime after Nohebi wins against a match, they hear their opponents loudly complain about them having cheated. Hiroo notices this and calls them "whining losers."
Against Nekoma, Hiroo scores the first point in the game, being able to counter Lev block easily. After this, Hiroo and the rest of Nohebi break into their habitual congratulating cheer of gathering into a circle and point upwards with their index finger. Soon after, when Lev fails to block Suguru, Sakishima calls him a "sieve", and Hiroo "confirms" this after he earns a point thanks to Lev's failed block as well.
After Yaku injures his foot, he is replaced by Shibayama, and not long after this, Hiroo steps up to serve. Ōmizu tells him to be aggressive and Hiroo nods. Hiroo then thinks to himself that whoever they replaced Yaku with can't be better than Yaku, which would leave a hole in Nekoma's defense. Hiroo then does a jump floater, which Kuroo is able to bump with difficulty. Kuroo then congratulates Hiroo for his nice serve, trying to mock Nohebi for their goody-two-shoes act, and Hiroo glares angrily at him.[1]
Right after when Fukunaga scores against Nohebi, Numai yells at them to grab them a ticket to nationals no matter whatever it takes, and his team gets more motivated to win. Hiroo, Kuguri and Seguro are the only ones whose faces stay indifferent at this.[2]
After Lev is able to block Kuguri's spike, Hiroo announces that it was a fluke, and Lev tells him that it wouldn't be a fluke once does it again, which he does. Not long after, Kenma does a setter dump that Hiroo is unable to block. When Sakishima himself tries to do a setter dump, Lev blocks it, and Hiroo notices that he was hiding Kuroo right behind him. Though he is fast enough to block Kuroo's spike, the ball still bounces off his arm, which earns Nekoma a point and wins them the first set.
Once it's his serve again, Hiroo thinks back at what Suguru said about targeting Yamamoto since he wanted to pressure the ace. Hiroo serves but in the end, Nekoma ends up getting the point. A few rallies later, Hiroo tries to taunt the ace, but Yamamoto is still not cracking, and Hiroo frowns at this. A few more rallies later, Hiroo's arms accidentally touch the net while blocking and he receives a net foul, though he stays loyal to his team's goody-two-shoes act and respectfully admits to doing so. As he does so, a previously opposing team of Nohebi's watches in disgust. Hiroo hears this but does not say anything.[2]
After Nohebi's loss, the third-years all stare at Suguru with a tried look on their faces, and playfully joins the team in playfully teasing Suguru for having gotten back together with Mika.
