"Karasuno's Hinamatsuri Festival" (Japanese:
Overview[]
The Neighborhood Association decides to hold a Hinamatsuri Festival and enlist the help of the boys' volleyball team. However, chaos ensues when someone is needed to fill the role of the emperor and an unexpected visitor arrives.
Plot[]
At the Shimada Mart, Shimada announces that the Neighborhood Association will be hosting their own Hinamatsuri Festival and need the help of the boys' volleyball team to help set up and participate in the festival. Daichi is a little annoyed that the team was brought in for something so suddenly. Sugawara questions Shimada where the special dolls are and is told that the dolls he ordered are running late but will be there by the time the festival starts.
Knowing the special meaning behind the festival, Tanaka and Nishinoya wonder if Kiyoko will be the one to play the role of the empress. With this now in their minds, the two are quick to volunteer to play the role of the emperor at the same time that Oikawa appears and offers to be the emperor. Daichi instantly becomes annoyed at Oikawa's sudden appearance. Oikawa again offers to be the emperor since he is already known as the great king. Daichi tries to get Oikawa to leave but is stopped when Kiyoko says that it would be of help to them to have someone play the role.
With Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Oikawa continuing to fight for the emperor role, the Karasuno third-years realize that they need to do something to solve the problem before things get out of hand. Daichi decides to have the three compete for the role by having them answer a trivia question but all three get the answer wrong. The Karasuno captain wonders if he should change the challenge to make the situation easier. Tanaka and Nishinoya come up with the idea of playing rock, paper, scissors to decide who should be the emperor.
While changing into their costumes, Kinoshita, Narita, and Ennoshita watch the competition and wonder who will be victorious. As the first round starts, Oikawa sneakily drops a volleyball. Instinctively, Nishinoya's defensive reflexes kick in and he dives to save the ball. Unfortunately, his flat hand causes him to lose as Tanaka and Oikawa had picked scissors. Now, only Tanaka and Oikawa are left.
Tanaka is right away concerned about Oikawa trying another trick but decides to watch Oikawa's hands carefully to make sure he is not tricked. His plan works and he is able to beat Oikawa. The setter naturally tries to turn things around in his favor until Sugawara points out that Kiyoko should be the one to decide who will play the emperor.
As she helps Yamaguchi and Tsukishima with their costumes, Kiyoko is not sure why she needs to make the decision but agrees to anyway. As she is still short on supplies since Hinata and Kageyama have yet to return from the store, Kiyoko decides to assign the three a different task and the winner will be whomever returns first. Kiyoko assigns Oikawa to fetch a roll of masking tape, Tanaka to find the dragon ball, and Nishinoya to locate the Buddha stone bowl.
As the three depart to fulfill their tasks, Daichi is startled when he sees the retired Date Tech third-years arrive with the announcement that they are there to deliver the dolls Shimada ordered. However, in classic Date Tech fashion, Moniwa announces that the dolls have been specially made and have added features.
Their attention is soon drawn to Tanaka when the second-year announces that he had found a dragon. Although everyone is confused as to how he had managed to locate an actual dragon, Kamasaki assures them that they have nothing to worry about as the dolls they made can transform into a fighting robot. Oikawa soon arrives with the tape but is startled at the sight of a large robot fighting a dragon.
As he was the only one to successfully complete his task, Oikawa is named the emperor. Dressed and ready for the festival, Oikawa is soon informed that the empress is also ready. However, he becomes confused when he sees that Kiyoko is not dressed in the empress costume and learns that she is not the one who will be playing the empress since she is too old to play such a role in a festival meant for young girls. Instead, Natsu Hinata will be the empress.
Later, Futakuchi informs Tanaka and Nishinoya that the dolls Date Tech made have yet to be paid for. The new captain begins to wonder if the two are now monster hunters when Tanaka offers a scale he managed to get from the dragon and Nishinoya offers a gemstone he found.
