Appearance[]
He has short, black spiky hair with medium-length sideburns shaped in a triangle, and fairly arched eyebrows. He is rather tall for a typical libero, and has a medium build. His uniform, however, is less distinguishing, only to have the colors completely inverted from the rest of the team.
His hairstyle in the anime is flatter compared to the manga where it is spiked up.

He gets frustrated easily when he misses key blocks and receives.
Plot[]
Spring High Preliminary Arc[]
Akiu walks off with his team after their first match against Ōgishō. As the match against Karasuno approaches the middle of its first set, Akiu fails to bump Hinata's quick set for another time, which frustrates him. Half to taunt their opponents, Nakashima makes his voice loud enough for Karasuno to hear when telling Akiu that he'll be able to receive any ball coming his way easily in the following rallies. Sometime later, Akiu is able to keep the game's longest rally with an impressive dig.
Sometime during the second set, Akiu calls one of Ennoshita's first shots of this game out, which makes the temporary captain self-conscious about his performance. Akiu would make another good dig when Asahi spikes right where the libero is. When Nakashima gets blocked, Akiu's and Naruko's reactions are the only ones who are not shown. Akiu would continue to dig Asahi's shots, which makes him exhausted at the enemy libero's skills. Near the end of the match, Akiu is unable to reach the final shot.
