"Killer Technique" (Japanese: 必殺技 Hissatsu Waza) is the seventh chapter of the Haikyū-bu!! series, written and illustrated by Kyōhei Miyajima and was first released on Shōnen Jump+.

Overview[]

Party team Johzenji is determined to come up with a new attack that makes them stand out. Unfortunately, Misaki finds her mental and physical well-being in the path of their recklessness.

Plot[]

Johzenji third-year Misaki realizes that lately she has been more frustrated than normal. She is quick to blame the boys on the volleyball team as the reason of her new anger. She notes how previous teams have always followed the school's motto of 'Simple and Strong' but the current generation is the complete opposite of that. Despite this, she acknowledges how strong they are and how they are able to place fairly high in tournaments.

As Misaki becomes determined to stay calm and collected, Terushima makes the announcement that they will be trying to make a new special attack. Misaki quickly questions why they need such a thing and gets simple answers of how it gets them fired up. Terushima states that there is nothing for Misaki to worry about as he has put serious thought into coming up with this much needed attack. Revealing that he has been reading a great amount of manga, he came to the realization that none of the other powerhouse teams in Miyagi are boring because they each have something that makes them well-known, such as Date Tech with their famous Iron Wall, Karasuno with the synchronized attack, and Aoba Johsai having Oikawa's powerful serves.

Now seeing why the boys are so determined to have a special attack of their own, Misaki asks what Terushima has in mind. He is quick to answer that the new attack will be called the Kamehameha, an attack that will blow away their opponents and give Johzenji total victory. Terushima compares himself to the famed Goku, saying they are basically the same, but Misaki points out how Terushima cannot call his piercing's battle wounds.

Terushima decides to move things forward by having the team meditate. Unfortunately, they do not last more than four seconds before growing bored of it and move onto something else. Anabara appears just then and points out how the team does their fundamental drills every day, so there does not seem to be much need for worry. This only causes Misaki to believe that Anabara has been swept up in the team's wild and carefree energy. Even though Misaki agrees when Anabara says the boys are having fun will giving serious thought to what they want to do next, Misaki feels certain that they are bound to slip sooner or later.

First-year manager Runa states how excited she gets when watching the team practice and thinks their new move will allow them to be unstoppable even at the national level. Runa then asks if they could try a sort of structure or acrobatic maneuver to allow them to hit from a higher location, but Misaki explains that doing something like that would be counted as an assisted hit. At that point, she notices the boys are forming a human pyramid and warns them not to do something so dangerous.

At hearing Runa suggest the team build leg strength, Terushima decides they need to learn how to levitate. However, they grow bored of meditating again before they can begin. Deciding they need to try something different, Terushima now states that they must learn to use their legs and feet to pass the ball. Trying to get the team to get back to regular, normal practice, she sees how serious they are about trying something new and realizes she can't convince them otherwise.

Suddenly, Terushima suddenly kicks the ball with great force but, to their shock and horror, it hits Misaki directly in the face. They start to panic that she might be seriously hurt but quickly grow concerned for their own safety when Misaki start to power-up from allowing her built up rage to finally be released. At this, Terushima decides he must power-up as well. Angry at how the bread at lunch has been terrible, Terushima is able to grow stronger and warns Misaki that he will not lose.

Misaki opens her eyes and realizes that she had been dreaming after being knocked out by the ball Terushima had kicked. The young captain is quick to give a sincere apology as others ask if she is alright. Knowing that they are a wild bunch, Misaki, at the same time, knows they are not a bad group of people. Stating that she is perfectly fine, she urges them to get back to practice.

In the bleachers, former captain Seiji Okudake feels relieved that he had nothing to worry about.
