"Kiyoko’s Wrath" (Japanese: ({{{2}}}) ) is the ninetieth chapter of the Haikyū-bu!! series, written and illustrated by Kyōhei Miyajima and was first released on February 14, 2022 on Shōnen Jump+.

Overview[]

When Kiyoko appears to be angered, several members of the volleyball team wonder which of them upset her and what they can do to apologize.

Plot[]

Earlier in the day, Kiyoko had announced that she would be washing all of the team jerseys and requested the players have them turned in no later than seven that evening. That evening, Nishinoya notices that it's past eight thirty and that he and Tanaka still have their jerseys. Tanaka assures the libero that they have nothing to worry about and is certain that Kiyoko will not be upset they missed her deadline. In the laundry room, Yachi becomes nervous when she sees Kiyoko's tense expression when they discover Tanaka and Nishinoya's jerseys in the previously-empty hamper.

The next day, Kinoshita tries to assure Kiyoko that situations like that happen often and is nothing to be concerned with. Keeping her back to the second-year, Kiyoko states that she is not upset but does not seem to convince him. After she leaves, Tanaka and Nishinoya appear from their hiding places and are certain that Kiyoko is angry at them despite Kinoshita and Ennoshita saying otherwise. Tanaka explains that he knows Kiyoko is upset by saying that women claim they are not angry when they are actually very angry, recalling how he had upset Saeko when he had eaten her dessert one day and she had claimed she was not upset despite her aura saying otherwise.

Feeling they know Kiyoko best, Tanaka and Nishinoya are certain that Kiyoko is upset with them and receive ridicule from Ennoshita for having upset her after claiming they know her best. Feeling cornered about what to do, Tanaka believes that his only option is to shave his head and offer an apology even though Kinoshita and Ennoshita state he would hardly be any different than his usual self. Nishinoya believes his punishment should be to have Kiyoko step on him, but it's pointed out how he wouldn't see this as an actual punishment. Tanaka remains uncertain if these actions will be enough for Kiyoko to forgive them and decides they should ask the third-years for their help.

In the clubroom, Daichi and Sugawara feel that the second-years are overthinking things and are sure that Kiyoko is not as angry as they think she is. Asahi is more sympathetic toward their situation and recalls how he would avoid Daichi and Nishinoya when he felt they were upset with him. Even though the two confirm they were upset, Asahi states that offering a quick and direct apology will be the best course of action.

Asahi's demeanor quickly changes when he opens his bag and discovers his practice jersey inside. Realizing that he's had the jersey since the day before, Asahi instantly becomes fearful that he may be the reason Kiyoko is upset and causes the others to worry that he will run away again despite his previous statements of how it's best to apologize and smooth things over. Daichi and Sugawara right away mock their fellow third-year and state his only option is seppuku. Even though Asahi feels the two are being overly dramatic, he feels that there is no way that he can show himself to Kiyoko. Tanaka and Nishinoya try to comfort the ace by offering him to join in their chosen punishments.

Thinking that having Yachi with them will prevent Kiyoko from unleashing her full fury, Asahi and the others ask the younger manager to be with them when they apologize. Unfortunately, Yachi fears that she too has upset Kiyoko. She reveals how she has noticed Kiyoko appeared upset and had continued to ask if she was. Despite Kiyoko repeatedly telling her that she wasn't mad, Yachi believes her constant questioning further annoyed the third-year manager. As Yachi requests to join their group apology, she becomes overwhelmed when Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Asahi reveal how they each plan to apologize. Kinoshita states that they should just get the apology done with and leads the way to find Kiyoko.

In the school, rumors have spread that Kiyoko appears angry. The group manage to find Kiyoko who explains that she was never angry and was actually stunned. Unfortunately, the four continue to believe that she's mad and quickly apologize. Tanaka, Asahi, and Nishinoya list the ways they will accept punishment and Yachi performs a perfect dogeza she learned from Takeda.

As Kiyoko continues attempting to explain how she is not angry, she overhears students that are watching state how she appears angry despite her usually calm and collected personality and how she should simply forgive the group. Hearing this and the group continue to apologize, Kiyoko appears to finally reach her limit. With an intimidating appearance, she states how she is not angry, putting the four further on edge, and leading to them earning a scolding in the end.
