"Kuroo vs Suguru" (Japanese: 黒尾VS大将!!) is the thirty-first chapter of the Haikyū-bu!! series, written and illustrated by Kyōhei Miyajima and was first released on December 30, 2019 on Shōnen Jump+.
Overview[]
On a day out on the town with Mika, Suguru has to balance trying to keep her happy while also trying to avoid Kuroo who continues to sneak up on him when he least expects it.
Plot[]
Excited that he's finally able to spend a day with Mika, Suguru realizes that he's arrived at the meet spot a little early. He suddenly feels a tap on his shoulder and turns around, thinking he'll see Mika, and sees Kuroo behind him. The two right away begin to taunt each other until Kuroo decides to find the rest of his party.
Still annoyed, Suguru feels someone tapping his shoulder. He angrily confronts the person, thinking it's Kuroo, and is shocked to see that Mika is behind him with a shocked expression of her own. Upset at how their date has started, Suguru explains why he was so annoyed. He becomes determined not to let the run-in with Kuroo ruin his date with Mika. After making plans to go shopping, Mika makes a quick trip to the bathroom. A few minutes later, Suguru suddenly has his eyes covered from someone behind him. Expecting it to be Mika, he once again sees Kuroo with dripping hands and asking for a napkin. Suguru quickly yells at Kuroo to leave. Still riled up, he nearly repeats his earlier actions when Mika returns. Although he managed to catch himself, he sees that Mika is still upset and explains his behavior, resulting from a run-in with an annoying person.
Suguru is able to get Mika into a better mood by providing her with a heat pack and asking where she'd like to start shopping. Around lunchtime, Suguru asks if she would like to eat and makes the suggestion of ramen but changes his mind to fast food when he notices Mika's demeanor at the suggestions. Selecting a location that is somewhat crowded since it's not a work day, Mika spots a place they can sit and Suguru notices Kuroo near by but now is accompanied by Yaku and Kai.
Again about to start a fight with Kuroo, Suguru tries to stay focused on Mika instead of the Nekoma captain. He tries to make conversation with Mika but it's clear that she's not buying it. Suguru promises that they can continue shopping once they're done eating but continues to wonder why he keeps running into Kuroo. As they are about to leave, Kuroo stops Suguru and points out that he forgot his scarf in the restaurant. When Suguru mistakenly phrases an insult and makes it seem like Mika is at fault for how the day has gone, Kuroo figures out what Suguru is so worried about as Mika excuses herself from the group to shop on her own.
Kuroo attempts to comfort Suguru but the Nohebi captain is not willing to hear him out and says he will blame Kuroo if Mika breaks up with him. Admitting that he has some fault in the matter, Kuroo is willing to help Suguru patch things up with Mika and offers his version of romantic advice that Suguru refuses to do. Kuroo continues to try to get Suguru to accept his help when Mika suddenly returns and hears Suguru loudly proclaim that Mika is the only person he loves and wants to hold close.
Even though both of them are caught off-guard by Suguru's declaration, they both leave together to continue their date. With the couple now gone, Kuroo asks Yaku if he was possibly in the way.
