"Let’s Teach The Managers Volleyball!" (Japanese:
Overview[]
The team managers decide to learn how to play volleyball. While knowledgeable about the game, playing it proves harder than they thought.
Plot[]
While Yachi prepares to make an underhand serve, she narrates a letter to her mother explaining that the team managers have decided to play volleyball together in order to get to know each other better. Yachi serves the ball, but the others unfortunately do not make a connection of the play.
The girls all admit that they are not very skilled when it comes to actually playing volleyball but also add that they would like to get better in order to be of more help to their respective teams, impressing everyone with their new abilities, and possibly even beating the boys. Yachi begins thinking that she can also become more helpful towards the team, but her imagination naturally gets the better of her and makes her think that she will not be helpful with how lacking in skill she is.
She is startled out of her thoughts when Bokuto enters the gym and announces that he can help the girls improve their skills. Having admitted he had eavesdropped on their conversation of wanting to improve their volleyball abilities, Bokuto offers to teach them himself. Several of the girls become thrilled at learning how to play from the Fukurōdani ace but Yachi is nervous that Bokuto may be too strict since he is one of the top aces.
Getting to the first lesson, Bokuto begins teaching the girls how to perform a jump serve despite their protests that he's having them start with something too advanced. Bokuto continues to demonstrate the jump serve several times and earns admiration from the managers. Stating that he's satisfied, Bokuto attempts to leave the gym but is called out by Suzumeda to stay. Bokuto quickly admits that he's not very good at teaching others and tries to get Akaashi to take over.
As the ace and setter debate who should be teaching, several members of the Nekoma team arrive and see the gym is being occupied. After a quick explanation of what is going on and learning that Tsukishima ran off to avoid the commotion, Miyanoshita wonders if there is anyone else who would be free to finish teaching the girls how to play volleyball.
After spotting Tanaka and Yamamoto peeking in from the gym doors, the girls are told to ignore the two second-years. Kuroo is suggested to help the managers learn how to play but the Nekoma captain isn't sure he should teach other managers since Nekoma doesn't have one themselves. Lev offers to help but Yaku quickly points out how a beginner wouldn't offer much to other beginners.
Yachi asks Kiyoko if Sugawara would be a good person to learn from but the other managers worry that Sugawara, despite his kind appearance, may be too strict and quick to punish. They voice even greater concerns when Asahi is mentioned which leads Bokuto to take back his teaching position. Hearing Yukie and Suzumeda point out how he had admitted he wasn't a good teacher, Bokuto has the group divide into teams so they can get hands on experience.
When Yachi points out how the managers cannot play a simple game, Bokuto offers to have members from Nekoma on one side so that they can learn receives better. To no one's surprise, Bokuto starts the game by delivering a powerful jump serve. He states that he has to use his full abilities since the managers hope to be able to become good enough beat them.
Seeing Yachi rattled by Bokuto's serve, Inuoka offers to take her place on the court. Bokuto quickly has Akaashi switch places with Suzumeda which causes Kuroo to have Fukunaga take Kiyoko's place. Soon enough, all of the managers have been replaced and are now on the sidelines as Nekoma and Fukurōdani play one another.
With Bokuto and Kuroo promising to have another match the following day, Yachi finishes her letter to her mother by stating that the volleyball players seem a little too crazy and how she cannot win against them.
