"Momentum Swing" (Japanese: (なが) れを () える (いっ) (ぽん) Nagare o Kaeru Ippon) is the sixty-third chapter of the Haikyū!! series, written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. It was published in the 27th issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump's 2013 series.

Overview[]

Aoba Johsai counters Hinata's broad attack with a dig, giving them a chance to score. Karasuno gets restless and ends up making mistakes which puts them into a pinch. Looking for something to ease the tension of the match, Ukai subs Yamaguchi in as a pinch server.

Plot[]

With the score now tied at 15-15, Aoba Johsai calls for a timeout. As he helps Kiyoko help the players, Yamaguchi sees how the rallies are lasting longer and the players are getting exhausted but still wishes that he could have a chance to be part of it.

Tanaka and Asahi praise Hinata for the last broad jump attack he did and how he was able to get just about everyone's attention on him. Sugawara knows that Hinata is becoming worn down from having to use the broad attack so much but knows that the middle blocker using the attack to score as much as possible is one of the biggest hopes they have to win the game.

Coach Mizoguchi also realizes that using the broad attack will be wearing on Hinata's stamina but the same thing is also happening to the Seijoh players as they try chase and block him. When Hanamaki asks what they should do to counter the broad attack, Oikawa struggles to think of what they should do until Coach Irihata tells them to "give up" on the broad attack.

The timeout ends and Kageyama is next to serve but it lands out. Tanaka is able to bring the score back to a tie in the next rally. Kageyama asks Hinata of his condition and that he should score as much as he can before he moves to the rear guard. When Nishinoya receives Kindaichi's spike, Hinata gets ready to do another broad attack but everyone is surprised to see that Seijoh's blockers are not attempting to block him and the only one focusing on Hinata is Watari.

Hinata spikes but Watari is able to receive with ease. The Karasuno team are stunned that Seijoh would leave Hinata unmarked but quickly determine that they've already found a way to counter his broad attack. They become more on edge when Oikawa does a setter dump. During a flashback, Oikawa figures out that Hinata's wide broad attack may be fast but it also puts a limit on where he can aim the spike. He formulates a plan in which they will leave Hinata unmarked and will instead use receives to counter it.

Karasuno becomes more on edge when they see that it's Oikawa's turn to serve but are still determined to cut it off at one. Oikawa's serve clips the top of the net but still lands before anyone can save it and puts the score at 16-18. At Oikawa's next serve, Nishinoya is able to receive but Kageyama and Asahi hesitate on who will get the next hit and just manage to get the ball back over. Takinoue and Shimada notice how the players are becoming panicked and are starting to rush things.

When Hinata gets a one-touch on Kindaichi's spike, Asahi is determined not to let Seijoh have control of the flow but at the same time takes himself out of position to attack. Hinata calls for a center attack but is ultimately blocked. Karasuno calls for their last timeout where Ukai is struggling to think of what he can do to calm the team when he hears Takinoue and Shimada cheering.

When Hinata is blocked by Kindaichi, Karasuno gains the point when Kindaichi is pointed out to have touched the net. To Oikawa's relief, Hinata is moved to the back. Shimada notes how a mistake here will put Aoba Johsai at twenty points until Takinoue brings his attention to what is happening on the court.

Shimada becomes overwhelmed when he sees that Yamaguchi is being subbed in as a pinch server.
