"Nekoma’s Cultural Festival" (Japanese:
Overview[]
In order to raise money for new equipment, Kuroo organizes a café hosted by the Nekoma volleyball team. However, the theme and costumes threaten their operation.
Plot[]
Knowing that the team is in need of new equipment, Kuroo announces to the team that he plans to have them organize an event for the upcoming cultural festival. At first, he is met with silence and surprise but soon enough finds himself being teased at for wanting to do such a thing by Kenma and Yaku who believe that Kuroo wants to scam people out of their money by selling them low-value items at a great cost.
Although Kuroo claims they have greatly misjudged him, he does offer the idea of the volleyball team selling their autographs as he feels certain at least one of them will become famous. The others do not believe Kuroo's theory and listen to how he claims Kenma will become a CEO, Fukunaga will become an entertainer, and Yaku will become a professional athlete. While Kenma denies that he will become a company president, Kai wonders if he will need to write his own autograph but Kuroo states that he will not need to since he thinks Kai will most likely have a future with landscaping.
Lev tries to get the team to be focused on the fun of the festival, but Shibayama points out how this will prevent them from earning any money. Yamamoto voices how he hopes they can do better than last year. Teshiro asks what the team did the previous year and Kuroo answers that they had gone with a food theme with the main item being used was liver.
Kuroo suggests the team come up with ideas if they don't like his idea. Yaku asks what the most successful attraction was the previous year. Kai answers that it was a maid café and he and Kenma reveal that this was where Yamamoto had been banned from after having snuck to it three times and sat in silence before crying.
Kuroo entertains the idea of a maid café but reminds the team that they don't have female managers to help them. Yaku suggests they ask Alisa and Akane to help them and pose as the maids for the day. Yamamoto is against the idea of having his younger sister help them in this manner, but Kuroo becomes captivated at the idea of the girls, especially Alisa, helping them. He says that he is on board to bring the two in to help them and this earns surprise from his teammates.
Shibayama voices what they thought Kuroo would say in not being comfortable with asking Akane and Alisa to help them out and Kai suggests they find a theme that will be fun for guys and girls. Yamamoto suggests fortune telling since it attracts girls in particular. Since Kenma believes people seek out fortune tellers to get good advice, he thinks one of the third-years should play the part. Kai is the first suggestion, but it's soon pointed out that his kind and helpful personality may not be what the role needs. Yaku is then suggested for the part, but he too is turned down since it is believed that he would just tell everyone to do muscle training.
With the team seemingly stuck on ideas, Teshiro suggests that they do a butler café instead of a maid café. The others start to show interest in the idea and have fun at Lev's expense when they explain how the event would work and how he would have to act. With the team in agreement on the theme, everyone is assigned a task and Kuroo feels certain they will earn a lot of money for the club.
On the day of the festival, several members of the Nohebi volleyball team head to Nekoma High and see everyone has gone all out for the festival. Suguru declares that their first stop will be the event the boys' volleyball team is hosting so that they can make fun of the players from now until the tournament for nationals.
Suguru leads his teammates to the event only to be shocked to see the volleyball players dressed as sheep. Kuroo explains their unusual attire being that a mistake was made during the ordering which ended up with the team having to change their café to a sheep theme. Kuroo tells Suguru that the options for a meal are a glass of water for eight hundred yen and a plate of liver for one thousand yen.
Several years later, Kuroo looks back on his idea of selling their autographs and realizes that Kenma's could have been worth a fortune. This leads Yaku and Yamamoto to think that Kuroo has a natural sense when it comes to money.
