Overview[]

Hirugami's past is revealed. Having been someone obsessed with perfection, Hirugami learning to relax and remain unaffected elevated his play to another level.

Plot[]

Despite facing Karasuno's aggressive offense, Hirugami still remains unfazed by everything. When asked by his teammates, Hirugami begins reminiscing and reveals that he learned to let go.

Hirugami comes from a family of volleyball players; thus, he naturally gravitates toward the sport. He possesses both the physique and talent to be a exceptional player. Eventually, he enrolled in Yurisei Middle School, the top powerhouse volleyball school in his prefecture. He was strongly obsessed with perfection and did not tolerate any of his own mistakes. He dedicated immense time and effort to improve his own skills, and soon enough, he received an Outstanding Athlete Award; however, he remains unsatisfied and continued to find faults with his own playing. One day after practice, Hirugami blamed his hands for failing him and started scraping his right knuckles against the stone fence. Hoshiumi suddenly appeared and stopped him from causing more harm. Hirugami then reveals to Hoshiumi that he might not like volleyball after all. In response, Hoshiumi told him it's fine to quit and remarked that Hirugami might be burnt-out from his intense dedication to the sport.

Back to the present, Hirugami explains that simply knowing he has the option to stop whenever allowed him to relax. After Hoshiumi scores a point, Hirugami rotates into the game. Against Karasuno's synchronized attack, he calmly watches Kageyama's toss and successfully shuts down Asahi's spike to put Karasuno in a tight spot.
