"Ohgiminami High Recruiting" (Japanese:
Overview[]
Worried about the Ohgiminami team needing new members, former captain Akimiya tries to teach the current members how to best approach someone to recruit them to the team. This proves to be much more challenging than he believed.
Plot[]
At Ohgiminami High, Towada tries to keep his teammates in high spirits when former captain Akimiya drops in for a visit. He's pleased to see how hard the team is training but soon thinks they are trying too hard when Towada explains that they're hoping to beat Shiratorizawa and Karasuno.
After politely turning down an offer to join practice, Akimiya admits that he stopped by for a different reason, the reason being the problem of recruiting new members. Realizing that he's forgotten about gaining new members because Akimiya had done the recruiting the previous year, Towada is unsure of what to do. Akimiya admits that it had been difficult to get new members because of the reputation the Ohgiminami team has of being a bunch of hoodlums and always fighting with only Ibuki Natsuse having been the only one who stayed. Although amused at first, Natsuse recalls how Akimiya had convinced him the club was like one happy family that is always cheerful and smiling.
Originally thinking they should use Natsuse to recruit new members, Towada decides it would be better for them to seek new members without using any kind of tricks. His first suggestion is that they should kidnap all of the athletic people at the upcoming entrance ceremony, but Akimiya tells him this will not help gain new members. He tries to teach them a polite phrasing they can use but naturally they make it sound more like a threat. Now more concerned about the team's future if they do not gain more members, Akimiya decides that they should try role play. He tells Towada and the others to imagine him as a first-year and to try to convince him to join the club.
Akimiya perfectly plays the role of an energetic first-year but this attitude quickly changes when the current players begin to size him up as if preparing for a fight. Towada tries to recruit Akimiya but is quickly turned down. Akimiya warns them that their delivery needs work and they try again. Although not as threatening as the first time, the second approach seems shadier. On the third attempt, Towada fakes an injury that he thinks will cause the first-year to take responsibility and join. Seeing that the players will not be able to properly comprehend how to approach people, Akimiya decides to take over their training.
On the first day of school, delinquent look-alikes of Tsukishima, Tanaka, and Yamamoto appear and are determined to be the new elites of the school. They begin debating on which club they need to join when they come across the volleyball club. Having undergone Akimiya's training in trying to be more polite, the team try their best to convince the new students to join; unfortunately, the three have heard of the Ohgiminami boys' team having been beaten in the first round of the previous tournament.
Angered, Towada and several others look like they are about to fight when Natsuse reminds them of their promise to Akimiya that they would not throw hands with anyone. Towada finds a way around the promise by kicking the Tanaka doppelganger and a fight ensues.
Eventually, Towada and the Tanaka lookalike are the only ones left standing. They admire each other's fighting skills and Towada asks if they would like to join the club only to learn that they've already decided to join the baseball team. Still, the club was eventually able to get other students to join.
