"Oikawa's Trip Abroad" (Japanese:
Overview[]
Oikawa has left Aoba Johsai to master a new language and culture. However, upon his return, his teammates question where exactly it is he went to.
Plot[]
In order to get more familiar with another country's language and culture, Oikawa states that getting into a relationship is the best course of action. This was the last time that Oikawa had been seen before he vanished two weeks earlier. Kunimi had heard that the setter planned on going to Argentina and may just be there right now. Kindaichi believes that Iwaizumi is showing concern for his best friend but the ace is actually wanting to collect some money that he had lent to Oikawa before he vanished.
Hanamaki and Matsukawa suddenly spot Oikawa and announce his return. At seeing their setter, everyone is speechless to see him wearing a strange outfit and speaking a different language. Oikawa continues using the strange new language while talking to his teammates and Iwaizumi decides to try translating, even though Kindaichi reminds him how this didn't work out so well the last time the ace tried to interpret for Oikawa.
Surprisingly, Iwaizumi is able to figure out that Oikawa is explaining that he is apologizing for worrying the team with his sudden disappearance and that his new girlfriend didn't want him to leave yet. Oikawa then presents a box with wrapped souvenirs. Kindaichi and Hanamaki each begin eating one only for Iwaizumi to translate that the items are actually bath bombs. Iwaizumi details Oikawa's claims that, in his girlfriend's home, people will use the bath bombs in both their bath and in their mouths so they can enjoy the scent inside and out. Oikawa hands them a bottle and the two use the liquid to wash the soap out only to learn that it's actually washing soap.
Kindaichi asks Oikawa why he is no longer speaking Japanese. Oikawa's translated answer is that, after learning another language, Japanese was too hard to remember and it was easier to just forget it. Hanamaki tries to find the new language on an app but it does little to help. Oikawa suddenly notices the time and announces it's time for him to leave. He promises that when he next returns it will be as Japan's enemy, everything being spoken in Japanese.
When Oikawa states that his girlfriend will be picking him up, it impresses the others a bit at the thought of him dating an older woman but then they become confused when Oikawa starts looking at the sky. To their horror, they notice a spaceship appear. Out of the ship appears a large black crow with familiar red hair. Hanamaki and Iwaizumi right away ask Oikawa if he really is dating this creature. They are shortly interrupted when a second ship appears and a female alien emerges with the declaration that she is Oikawa's girlfriend.
Thinking the setter was up to no good being in two relationships, he is quickly ridiculed by his friends. At the same time, the crow and alien begin fighting to decide who Oikawa will be with. After a minor explosion, everyone is surprised to see that an officer who looks just like Ushijima has arrived to settle everything. He warns Oikawa that he broke a law stating that interspecies relationships between planets over fifty light years apart is punishable by death. However, because he finds it cruel to imply such a law on an undeveloped planet, the officer instead states that everyone present will have their memories altered of everything that has taken place over the last two weeks.
Iwaizumi praises Oikawa for having learned the Argentinian language after being there for just two weeks. Oikawa explains that it was thanks to his kind and patient girlfriend that he was able to master the language so quickly. With the congratulations over, Iwaizumi asks Oikawa for the money he lent him plus the interest as Kunimi notices a box of possible sweets. All of them not noticing the new surgical stitching's on their foreheads.
