Spring High Preliminary Arc[]
Yokote's debut appearance comes when Ohgiminami plays against Karasuno in the Spring High Tournament. As the game starts with Asahi serving, the ace right away lands a powerful service ace that leaves Yokote and the Ohgiminami team stunned. As the match continues and Karasuno begins taking an obvious lead, Yokote would attempt to make saves of several spikes and serves.
When Moritake and Natsuse attempt to block Asahi, Yokote is in place to receive the spike and get the ball up. During a brief flashback, Yokote is shown to have participated in the previous tournament where Ohgiminami played against Shiratorizawa. He had attempted to receive a spike from Ushijima but was unable to receive the ball properly. Ohgiminami lost the match and were removed from the tournament. Yokote was present when the team captain, Akimiya, retired from the team.
When Karasuno wins the first set, the team is receiving encouragement from their coach when Akimiya calls out to them from the bleachers. Yokote and the others become annoyed when Akimiya playfully teases the team for always backing down when on the court despite how they try to portray themselves as thugs. Akimiya gives the team words of encouragement before the second set starts.
Despite a new sense of determination, Yokote and the team find themselves quickly giving in to accepting their inevitable defeat as Karasuno continues to pull ahead. When Karasuno reached match point, Towada began putting more effort into his play and encouraged his team to do the team. Yokote quickly followed and got the ball back over only for Nishinoya to receive it. As Tanaka attempted to land a counter shot, Yokote received the ball and declared that the match wasn't over just yet.
Even with their best efforts, Ohgiminami loses. As the team reflect on their loss in the hall, Akimiya comes to see his former team and expresses how they can become a stronger team if they work hard and stop using the 'there's next time' excuse. As Towada thanks their former captain for his support, Yokote and the others join in expressing their gratitude.[1]
