Overview[]
Kakugawa captain Komaki is attempting to learn the secret of Hyakuzawa's incredible height in order to get everyone on the team to be just like Hyakuzawa.
Plot[]
At Kakugawa High, teammates of Hyakuzawa ask if the tall wing spiker is starting to get a better handle of volleyball. Hyakuzawa answers that he is starting to become use to the sport but is still shaky on his receives. His teammates state that he will be fine so long as he can provide the team with powerful attacks. When Kaito claims that a team can feel very powerful by having one incredibly tall player, Hyakuzawa counters by saying that it's because the rest of the team and their captain, Komaki, that he is able to play so well.
After practice, some of the players speak of how Komaki seems to have been acting differently since Hyakuzawa joined the volleyball team. Inagaki believes it's because Hyakuzawa is showing promise despite being a new addition, but the captain may be going a bit too far. One example he provides is that Komaki had once provided protective padding for Hyakuzawa to wear so that the taller player wouldn't be at risk of receiving injuries and even once offered to trim his nails. Inagaki then reveals to them that he once heard Komaki commenting how he wished the team had more players like Hyakuzawa and made a comment about making more. With the new information about Komaki having asked about Hyakuzawa's favorite food and offering to trim his nails, this leads the others to think their captain may attempt to clone Hyakuzawa. Just as the team is telling Hyakuzawa to be cautious of Komaki, the said captain appears and offers to take care of Hyakuzawa's sweat-soaked jacket.
The team chase down Komaki and try to prevent him from going through with their theory of him attempting to clone Hyakuzawa. Komaki claims that such a thing isn't possible but admits that he was actually trying to get everyone else to be like Hyakuzawa, something they see as even worse as Komaki may attempt to alter their genetics. Komaki explains that he's been trying to figure out how Hyakuzawa became to tall which is the reason he had been asking the first-year about his diet and several other things. Komaki declares that once he has learned the secret of Hyakuzawa's great height, he can pass this information onto everyone else on the team and they can all be as tall and powerful as him. When Nurukawa asks why Komaki wanted Hyakuzawa's nail trimmings, Komaki answers that he was going to attempt to make a beverage with Hyakuzawa's genetics but decided against it since it would seem too abnormal.
With everything now cleared up, Komaki announces that he will have everyone on the team follow Hyakuzawa's diet and provides several pieces of rolled beef that are larger than the players themselves. When Komaki calls Minamida "Hyakuzawa 51", he explains that he has compared everyone's size and weight to Hyakuzawa's and now has labeled everyone based on their percentage of the wing spiker, even stating himself to be sixty percent of Hyakuzawa but that his glasses deduct ten percent of that overall score.
Realizing this, Komaki decides to lead by example and begins eating first. Later, he is shown to be a hospital bed. Looking out the window, Komaki comments to Hyakuzawa how he too will pass on once all of the leaves on the tree fall off. Hyakuzawa points out how Komaki is not dying and had simply ate more than he was capable of. Komaki questions what it was he did wrong and confesses that he tried his best to get everyone to be just like Hyakuzawa in order to help them become more victorious.
Hyakuzawa explains that Komaki's logic was flawed from the start. He explains that, even with his great height, he is still lacking in skill in many areas, and that others who are shorter than him are better by a great deal. Hyakuzawa adds that it's better for someone to figure out how to use the body they were born with. Komaki becomes emotional at hearing such wisdom, claiming that he wish he could have heard this before dying and seems to not hear Hyakuzawa remind him that he is not dying and is actually being discharged later that day.
When Komaki is later being discharged, the nurse takes the chance to get his weight in. Komaki comments how his height was recently measured as well, and he and Hyakuzawa are soon surprised to see his new weight. Back at school, Komaki happily boasts about now being sixty-one percent of Hyakuzawa and believes that his research wasn't completely off.
Several days later, Minamida and Kaito have gained a great amount of weight, and Komaki now believes that his theory was indeed incorrect.
