"The Aone Army" (Japanese:
Overview[]
The Ohgiminami volleyball team is presented with the chance to practice with one of the prefecture's most famous middle blockers and his numerous copies.
Plot[]
Ohgiminami High's coach, Ninomiya, bursts into the gym with the announcement that he has managed to get the team a practice match against Date Tech. While several of the players are shocked that they've managed to get a practice match with their reputation, but others are grateful to finally have a practice match since it's not often they have one and that Date Tech is well known for having Aone as one of their blockers.
At the time of the match, the team is surprised to see that Aone is indeed present but that there are also five other Aone's standing with him. When greeting Oiwake and Nametsu, Ninomiya asks why there are so many Aone's. Oiwake explains that Aone had once faced off against MK-2 as a practice partner and now there is a series of armored robots modeled after the original Aone but have their own unique characteristics the separate them from one another.
Towada and the others question where the human players are and one of the Aone robot's answers that the rest of the team is in the hospital from suffering food poisoning and the androids are covering for them. With some of the players starting to get nervous, Towada tries to get everyone fired-up to play against such a strong challenger.
Towada's first serve is received and the Aone androids quickly counter with powerful attacks. Ninomiya right away calls for a timeout. He tries to keep the players optimistic, but Towada argues that the robots are beating them in terms of everything else. Commenting how weary he has become from raising his voice, Towada wonders if the androids ever rest and look over to see Oiwake and Nametsu doing maintenance to the machines. After hearing how Nametsu points out that Aone Alex's legs have taken some damage, the Ohgiminami players think they have found a weakness and decide to make the match a battle of endurance.
Towada serves and manages to take out Superior Aone's right arm. Oyasu is taken out in the next attack, followed by Nu Aone's right leg, and then Moritake. Eventually, the game reaches a third set and Ohgiminami is looking to be the winning team as they reach match point first. Even knowing they are not playing against Date Tech's regular starting line-up, they're still proud of how they're playing against the Aone androids as well as the wear and tear the machines are starting to face.
Oiwake knows that the androids are not fit for an endurance match and tries to prevent them from pushing themselves too hard. However, the androids point out the fact that the Ohgiminami players are weak individually but are working as a team and therefore are stronger. The androids do the same thing and combine themselves to become stronger. As everyone watches, the damaged and broken androids combine their working parts around Aone to form a giant fighting robot.
Towada refuses to back down, but his serve is easily blocked by one of the machines wings but quickly runs into a problem when remembering the rules of how the same person cannot touch the ball more than once. Having failed, the androids decide the only choice now is to initiate self-destruct.
As an apology, Date Tech later sent Ohgiminami androids modeled after their team, but the players wish to not be around any robots again.
