"The Fate of an Ace" (Japanese: エースのさだめ Ēsu no Sadame) is the three hundred and thirtieth chapter of the Haikyū!! series, written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. It was published in the 2nd issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump’s 2019 series.
Overview
Mujinazaka shows off their top-notch offense and defense skills as they dominate the match. Meanwhile, Fukurōdani is struggling even with Bokuto in peak form. Perhaps, the problem lies with Akaashi.
Plot
Bokuto successfully receives Kiryū's spike with his chest, and Washio capitalizes on the moment to score for Fukurōdani. However, Kiryū quickly thwarts Fukurōdani's progress with a dominating spike and two powerful serves specifically aimed at Bokuto. Fukurōdani is forced to take a time out as Mujinazaka leads by four points. Meanwhile, Kuroo easily recognizes that Bokuto is being heavily targeted and pleads for his friend to not fold under pressure.
Some time after the match resumes, Bokuto approaches for a sharp straight only to find his spike being cleanly blocked by Unnan. It turns out that Mujinazaka blockers are marking the trajectory to counter Bokuto's straights as well as forcing him to spike toward the center of the court where their libero is situated. Using such tactics, Mujinazaka successfully restricts Bokuto and gains a huge lead of 17 - 12 over Fukurōdani. In the subsequent play, Sarukui skillfully receives a difficult serve from Usuri. As Akaashi prepares to toss, he switches to a dump shot at the last moment. However, Usuri reads his intention and alerts his teammates. Unnan and Ezota put up a two-man block and shuts down Akaashi's dump shot to widen the point gap even more.
