Haikyū!! Wiki

"The Losers" (Japanese: 敗者 (はいしゃ) Haisha) is the sixty-ninth chapter of the Haikyū!! series, written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. It was published in the 33rd issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump’s 2013 series.

Aoba Johsai defeats Karasuno and advances to the Quarter-finals. Kageyama apologizes to Hinata about their last play being read at the end. With rage, Hinata lashes out at Kageyama and tells him that he should not be sorry for tossing to him. Takeda reaches out to them, saying that defeat is not a proof of being weak. Soon after, Karasuno eats a healthy meal at a restaurant. With tears in their eyes, Karasuno vows to become stronger.

Aoba Johsai has won the game 33-31. Iwaizumi asks Oikawa how he knew Kageyama and Hinata would be doing the super quick. Oikawa answers that he knew they would do the super quick because he has seen how Kageyama has grown, developed, and learned to trust others while being at Karasuno and being around the other players. With how everyone was worn out during the last play and Karasuno was in need of a point, setting to Hinata was the only option in Kageyama's mind.

Daichi approaches Kageyama and Hinata to line-up with the others but Hinata tearfully apologizes to the captain who counters that what happened was not his fault. The teams line-up and thank one another before thanking their supporters. Takinoue and Shimada are surprised to see Asuka Hirama and Manaka Ujiie applauding the Karasuno players. Takinoue and Shimada praise the team for their game but remember how it felt to hear someone compliment their match when they lost, finding themselves at a loss at what else they could possibly say.

As the next team heads onto the court, Ukai calls for the team to head out. Iwaizumi questions Oikawa if he was going to mock Karasuno like he planned to but Oikawa points out that they were not strong just by themselves. He states how at the end of the second set, Kageyama was able to read that Oikawa would set to Iwaizumi and thus was trying to shake off his title of King of the Court but it only lead to Oikawa being able to read what Kageyama would attempt later.

Outside the gym, Hinata tries to tell Kageyama that their meeting in starting only for Kageyama to apologize for the last play, saying that Oikawa was able to read him clearly and tell what he was planning. Hinata yells at Kageyama not to apologize when Takeda appears to get them for the meeting. He calms the two down by telling them how well they played and that they shouldn't think of being defeated as meaning they are weak and instead think of it as something to overcome.

After the team watches Seijoh's next game, they leave with Ukai informing them that he's taking them to dinner. Before the meal, he says how their bodies can get strained from all the stress and exercise they've done and the way to mend and get stronger is to eat a good meal.

The boys begin to quietly eat and eventually start crying as Ukai quietly speaks of how, with time, they will grow stronger.
