"The Miya Twins' Comedy Battle" (Japanese: 宮兄弟お笑いバトル Miya Kyōdai Owarai Batoru) is the fourth chapter of the Haikyū-bu!! series, written and illustrated by Kyōhei Miyajima and was first released on Shōnen Jump+.
Overview[]
The Miya twins begin a battle for the top bunk bed and decide the winner will be whoever can make their captain, Kita, laugh first. However, the task proves more difficult than either one believed.
Plot[]
At Inarizaki High, Atsumu suggests to Osamu a different method of deciding who gets the top bunk. Osamu accuses Atsumu of being upset at his eight-loss streak and therefore having to have the lower bunk for several nights. Atsumu begins to debate the cons of having the lower bunk until Osamu begins to do the same. Just as they decide to settle things with Winning Eleven as usual, Atsumu gets the idea to settle things once and for all by having a contest to see who can make Kita laugh first, something that Aran thinks will be impossible for even the twins to accomplish.
As the two brothers begin to formulate plans for how to make Kita laugh, Aran warns them against this idea, as it will surely just earn them Kita's wrath. Ignoring the ace's warning, Atsumu is the first to try to make Kita laugh and brags about how he will surely succeed on his first try. Kita and Aran begin to have extra practice when Atsumu is asked to provide them sets. Atsumu instead grabs hold of the net and pretends to be escaping from a cage. The attempt makes no one laugh and instead makes Kita think the setter is tired and wishes to go home. Aran again tries to get the Miya's to abandon their contest, but the two again ignore his suggestion and even try to get Suna to take part in the contest. However, Suna decides against this, as he does not want to be brought into their antics.
Kita returns to the gym and advises the players to change out of their sweat-soaked clothing. Osamu now attempts to make the captain laugh by blurting out several embarrassing moments that occurred to Atsumu from when they were young up until middle school. Atsumu quickly tries to silence his brother, suspecting that he was just blurting these things out in an attempt to humiliate his twin instead of making Kita laugh. Suna suggests they attempt the famed Shining reference, but the two do not take him seriously and instead decide to take things up a notch by joining forces.
The brothers try several desperate attempts to make Kita laugh, but each one fails. Eventually, the two are worn out and believe that their attempts were for naught. As Kita begins to leave, his grandmother suddenly appears from behind the gym door, doing the Shining reference and saying, "Here's Granny!". To everyone's surprise, Kita starts laughing while claiming there is no way he can't laugh at this.
Atsumu and Osamu quickly beg Kita's grandmother to become their mentor, as Kita warns them not to overwhelm her.
