"Vantage Point" (Japanese: 視点 (してん) Shiten) is the two hundred and twelfth chapter of the Haikyū!! series written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate. It was published in the 31st issue of Weekly Shōnen Jump’s 2016 series.

 Overview Edit

Hinata is still searching for what he can achieve at the training camp. While watching the practice match from above, Hinata notices the stance and movements of the players on the court. He realizes that he can deduce the path of a spike by reading the spiker's form. Until now, Hinata has just been chasing after the ball and now he learns that there is so much more to take in when looking at the entire court.

Plot Edit

During Karasuno's training, Coach Ukai is deep in thought. He is pondering whether letting Hinata attend the training camp is the better choice over practicing with the rest of team for Nationals. Takeda assures Ukai that he made the right choice since it's important for players to search for what's the best for themselves.

Meanwhile at Shiratorizawa, Hinata realizes that he must observe and learn from the way the players move. While fulfilling his ball boy duties, Hinata pays attention to how the receivers position themselves to match the blockers. He then recalls Nishinoya's explanation about how great defenders are expert at reading the spiker's form and attempts to do the same.

Afterwards, he observes how Kuroishi, a libero for Hakusuikan High School, reacts and saves Semi's powerful serve. Hinata takes notice of Kuroishi's slight movement ahead of positioning for the receive and recognizes it as something he has seen before. Hinata remembers playing tennis with his friend Junpei Tamayama back in middle school and being taught the split step to help improve his reaction time. When he sees Ushijima serving next, Hinata attempts to put the split step into practice. He is satisifed to find himself reacting on time and catching the ball, despite getting a nosebleed in the process. For the rest of the day, Hinata is continuously observing and taking in information from the whole court instead of focusing only on spiking.
