Overview[]

As he moves into his new apartment, Sakusa is surprised by unwanted visitors.

Plot[]

Fresh after graduating from college, Sakusa expresses joy at having been accepted onto the MSBY Black Jackals and that he is also moving into his own apartment, calling it his castle. Excited to finally be living alone, Sakusa is determined to do things his way and begins to clean the apartment.

Just as he starts cleaning, Sakusa receives a message from Komori who congratulates him on his new apartment and playfully asks if he could visit. However, to his surprise and the astonishment of Suna and Washio, Sakusa warns Komori to stay away. In truth, Sakusa declined having his cousin over as he fears that Komori may have accumulated germs from wherever he is out and about and does not want them brought into his apartment. His attention soon turns to his front door when he hears the doorbell and spots Atsumu and Bokuto on the monitor. They announce they have brought sake and snacks to celebrate Sakusa moving in.

As Sakusa debates whether or not to let them in, Bokuto wonders if they have the right apartment. Atsumu confirms they do when they see Sakusa's name on the name plaque. They continue requesting entrance, but Sakusa soon appears and tells them to leave. The two continue to try to get Sakusa to let them in so they can bond but Sakusa remains firm in not allowing them in. As the two continue trying to get in, Sakusa fears that their presence will disturb the neighbors and reluctantly gives in. As they enter, Sakusa gives them slippers while warning them not to test his patience or else he will make them leave.

Bokuto and Atsumu agree to his requests and enter. However, Sakusa right away notices that Bokuto is not wearing socks and that he and Atsumu did not wash their hands or brush off the dust from their clothing. He becomes more annoyed when the two messily eat some of the sweets they brought and decides they have stayed long enough. After they convince Sakusa not to toss them out so quickly, they continue to eat the snacks when Bokuto notices that Sakusa appears upset but guesses that it is because they may have forgotten Sakusa's favorite candy. Atsumu believes that Sakusa may be stressed because he is on his own for the first time and must be nervous. Sakusa admits that he is upset the two are eating in his home without having asked first.

Atsumu recalls when he first started living alone. He tells how he had a difficult time in the beginning and how he was constantly hungry. Sakusa asks how Atsumu would get to that point. The setter admits that he wasn't use to being on his own and admits being use to his mother having done things for him and he therefore forgot how to do things like proper food shopping. Word of this got to Atsumu's former teammates which led to Kita sending him several bags of rice from his farm. Unfortunately, Atsumu is further revealed to not be skilled in cooking as he admits that he does not know how to use many utensils. He claims to have things figured out now but does admit that he calls Osamu often to deliver onigiri to him.

Bokuto soon admits to his own struggles when he started living by himself and admits that he too had a hard time eating properly. He tells how he had heard of Hinata taking a backpack of food with him when he left for Brazil and had attempted the same thing but nearly ended up eating a volleyball in the process. He also admits how doings things like taxes can also be troubling but always receives help from Akaashi. Hearing how much Akaashi has done for the ace, Atsumu claims that Akaashi did too much, but Bokuto tries to ease his worries with the admission that several of his former teammates also helped him out. At hearing how Akaashi continues to bring Bokuto food twice a month, Atsumu claims that Bokuto will be the one at fault should Akaashi never be able to marry.

Atsumu now believes that Sakusa has heard enough to accept that it takes a while to get use to being alone and that it's ok to still get help from others. Sakusa turns down Atsumu's encouragement by saying that he is well prepared to be on his own and will have no trouble doing things like moving his own furniture, doing his taxes himself, and waking up in the morning.

Seemingly fed up with Sakusa's independence, Atsumu decides to leave while stating that he will not help should Sakusa ever come to them if he is ever in need. With Bokuto in tow, Atsumu states that Sakusa will soon see that he will go through the same trouble they did and will be on the verge of starvation soon enough. With the two now gone, Sakusa promises himself that he is nothing like Atsumu and Bokuto and will not experience any of the trouble they went through.

He is able to successfully do this for a time and does things like making different meals for himself every day regardless of his fatigue, picks his own favorite pickled dried plums, started his own kitchen garden, and even keeps a well-organized assortment of items in case of an emergency.

Despite all his preparations and cautions, Sakusa's paradise is soon destroyed when he returns home and spots a roach dart out from under his couch. In total shock, he drops everything he is carrying and questions how this situation came to be as he had left the apartment spotless when he had left and had even taken the trash out.

At another day of practice, several of the Black Jackals players are surprised to see Sakusa bowing on a clean sheet and asking Atsumu and Bokuto for help as it has been days since he has been home. As Atsumu agrees to help since this should be something they should do for each other, Sakusa confesses that, since he has been staying elsewhere, he is out of money at the same time his stomach is heard growling. This causes Atsumu to loudly declare that he was right.
